SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general direction the site administration, the Bilingual Education Facilitator serves as an on-site professional developer who collaborates with teachers at the secondary level to help them use proven practices in the instruction of core content for students in which the language of instruction is both English and Spanish.
The Bilingual Education Facilitator will conduct on-site teacher training and coaching, providing a variety of instructional approaches and interventions to teachers in response to teacher need and analysis of student achievement data.
The Bilingual Education Facilitator will promote language proficiency, cultural understanding, and academic excellence in both languages.
The Bilingual Education Facilitator will monitor the progress of students participating in the Bilingual Education Program and will help to provide academic support for these students.
The Bilingual Education Facilitator will help to grow the Bilingual Education Program, assisting with program design and recruiting.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development and Implementation : Bilingual Education Facilitator will assist in the design, development, and implementation?
of secondary bilingual education curriculum and instructional practices that directly support students participating in the on-site Bilingual Education Program.
Students participating in the on-site Bilingual Education Program may include students receiving English Language Development (ELD) services, newcomer students, students matriculating from a middle school dual language program, and heritage Spanish speakers who are not receiving ELD services.
Bilingual Education Facilitator will support teachers in integrating bilingual education methodologies and strategies into their classrooms.
They will ensure alignment of Bilingual Education Program goals with state and district standards.
Instructional Support : Bilingual Education Facilitator will provide professional development and training for teachers on effective bilingual education instruction.
They will conduct classroom observations and offer feedback to enhance teaching practices. They will develop and share resources and materials to support dual language instruction.
They may assist teachers with intervention strategies and implementation of differentiated instruction. They may teach or co-teach classes within the on-site Bilingual Education Program.
Professional Learning Communities : Bilingual Education Facilitator may support PLCs by modeling collaborative structures, providing professional resources, compiling, and analyzing data, assisting in the design of interventions, and modeling and co-teaching best practices.
This may include supporting interdisciplinary PLCs and the design of interdisciplinary units to support bilingual learning.
Professional Collaboration : Bilingual Education Facilitator will directly collaborate with the English Language Development Department in the design and implementation of the on-site Bilingual Education Program, including collaboration on how the program includes and supports ELD students.
Student Support : Bilingual Education Facilitator will monitor student progress and provide interventions as needed to support language development and academic achievement.
They will facilitate language assessments and interpret results to inform instructional decisions. They will promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Community and Family Engagement : Bilingual Education Facilitator will foster strong partnerships with parents and the community to support dual language education.
They will organize and lead informational sessions and workshops for parents on the benefits and expectations of dual language programs.
They will function as a liaison between the school, families, and community organizations to promote cultural awareness and involvement.
School Improvement : Bilingual Education Facilitator may serve on site leadership councils and perform in a leadership role in designing and implementing school improvement plans.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education / Experience : Any combination of education that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be :
- Education : Master's Degree (or ability to obtain) with coursework in education or related field from an accredited university.
- Experience : A minimum of five years' classroom teaching experience at the secondary level.
- Preferred Experience : Two years experience serving in a coaching / mentor / leadership role over secondary teachers.
- Qualification in the Teacher Leadership Pool is required. If the qualified candidate is not currently in the Teacher Leadership pool, they must meet the annual requirements for professional learning and qualify for the WCSD Teacher Leadership pool within three years.
- Knowledge of : The Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS); professional learning standards; in-depth knowledge of content area;
- current research on best practices for improving achievement and the integration of the strategies in other content areas;
adult learning theory; formative assessment processes.
Skill at : Group facilitation and interpersonal communication both oral and written; instructing adults, including effective collaboration;
and organizational skills and the ability to design and implement effective professional development experiences in individual and group settings.
Communication and collaborating with groups and individuals; communicating effectively orally and in writing; evaluating, assessing, and revising programs;
establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; ability to innovate and conceptualize new programs; and excellent time management skills.
Bilingual Ability : Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in both English and Spanish.
Licenses / Certificates : Possession of a valid, grade-appropriate Nevada teaching certificate and ability to obtain a Bilingual Education Endorsement.
