Day - 10 Hour (United States of America)We are seeking a full time APP to work with Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at SHC TriValley.

As part of the Cardiovascular Health service line APP team, you will have the opportunity to work with an outstanding team of surgeons, APP’s, and nurses who are distinguished by expertise in many aspects of cardiovascular disease management and procedures.

In this position you will partner with the surgeons as part of the surgery practice. The APP will contribute to improve the quality of life for patients with cardiovascular diseases and share the responsibility for all aspects of the patient care.

The APP in this role with work collaboratively with the surgeons and other APP’s to manage vascular surgery patients through physical assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

This APP will perform related duties to be determined on the departmental need.

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 1 year experience in cardiac surgery and EVH experience.

Cardiac Surgery job functions :

  • Completes initial pre-operative consultation visit in cardiac surgery clinic.
  • First and second assistant in the operating room.
  • Primary team that evaluates and treats post op cardiac surgery patients on the floor / ICU.
  • Manages acute post-operative issues as well as chronic co-morbidities.
  • Works closely with multi-disciplinary team to coordinate patient throughput and discharge planning.
  • Conducts the following procedures including but not limited to : chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, vein harvest, & DCCV
  • Acts as consultant to ICU for cardiac surgery patients and sees consults as needed throughout the hospital.
  • On call : 1 weeknight M-Th weekly & 1 weekend (Fri-Sun) monthly at minimum

Vascular Surgery Job Functions :

  • First and second assistant in the OR.
  • Perioperative management including preop assessment, coordination of care, and postoperative management of surgical patients.
  • Vascular medicine care, routine follow up care, wound care, acute post-operative care and chronic co-morbidities including chronic disease management.
  • Conducts in clinic procedures independently including but not limited to : wound care, drain removal, TDC removal, suturing, vein procedures (sclerotherapy and others based on department need).
  • Inpatient role includes : inpatient, intraoperative, including hospital rounds, consults, and admission / discharge. This is a Stanford Health Care job.

The Physician Assistant (PA) functions under this Physician Assistant Job Description approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC).

Specific functions pertaining to the Service, Clinic or Department are established by the PA and his / her supervising physician(s), and approved by the appropriate medical and nursing administrators, the IDPC, the Credentials & Privileges Committee, the Stanford Hospital and Clinics (SHC) Medical Executive Committee and the SHC Board Credentials, Policies and Procedures Committee.

What you will do

  • Evaluates and treats patients with acute, chronic complaints and health maintenance concerns related to specialty.
  • Obtains complete histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients.
  • Performs or requests and evaluates diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient.
  • Administers medications according to the formulary protocol or upon patient-specific approval from the supervising physician, or transmits orally or in writing on a patient’s record, a prescription from the supervising physician to a person who may furnish such medication.

All controlled substances in Schedules II-V inclusive require a patient-specific approval by a supervising physician in advance of transmittal of the order or administration of the medication see Standardized Procedure : Administering, Ordering, Furnishing or Prescribing of Drugs; Formulary Protocol .

  • Orders and collects specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products.
  • Orders physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations and nursing services.
  • Performs designated procedures after demonstrated competency, according to written standardized procedures where applicable.
  • Obtains informed consent, as indicated.
  • Initiates arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and completes appropriate paperwork.
  • As directed by the supervising physician, enrolls patients in investigational studies approved by the Investigational Review Board (IRB), and orders the necessary tests and medications.

  • After appropriate training, assists the supervising physician in the operating room (OR).
  • Acts as first or second assistant under the supervision of an approved supervising physician.
  • Performs surgical procedures in the personal presence of the supervising physician.
  • Recognizes and considers age-specific needs of patients.
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
  • Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary.
  • Facilitates the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed.
  • Facilitates collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources.
  • Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provides and coordinates patient teaching and counseling.

Education Qualifications

  • 1. Bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited college or university.
  • Note : PAs hired prior to July 1, 2012 are not subject to this educational requirement - Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.

Licenses and Certifications

  • PA - Physician Assistant State Licensure and
  • BLS - Basic Life Support and
  • DEA - Drug Enforcement Administration

Base Pay Scale : Generally starting at $83.89 - $111.16 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
