Environmental Services Technician PT-Smith
At Houston Methodist the EnvironmentalServices (EVS) Technician position performs a variety of general aswell as moderately complex cleaning tasks in assigned specialtyareas to provide a safe and attractive environment for patientsguests and staff.
This position maintains environmental andinfection control standards within established policies andprocedures. In addition the Environmental Services Technicianposition follows Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN)standards for turnover and terminal cleaning of procedure rooms.
This position works with floor maintenance equipment and chemicalsas well as handling and interaction with hazardous materials forappropriate disposal conference room set ups and linen distributioncollection and tracking as appropriate.

- Promptly respondsto all assignments to create an environment that is conducive forhealing. Communicates and documents any facility or patient relatedissues to management asappropriate.
- Performsefficient room cleaning processes ensuring timely patientadmissions
QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Followsdepartment process for room cleaning and discharge inspections asappropriate with the goal of meeting or exceeding HCAHPScleanlinessscores.
- Achieves dischargedaily room cleaning and assigned area turnaround times asappropriate
- Duringdischarge activity tracks logs and notifies appropriate managementof safety and repair needs forequipment
- Follows policiesprocedures and safety rules. Corrects minor safety hazards andobserves standard infection control precautions and complies withOSHA standards
- Performsone or more of the following : Follows proper cleaning / maintenanceprocedures for all floor types utilizing equipment as appropriate.
Collects transports and disposes of solid / biohazard waste throughproper procedures. Follows identified cleaning procedures which mayinclude utilizing specialty equipment in assigned areas (e.
g.surgical procedural or isolation areas etc.). Uses appropriatetransporting techniques for clean or soiled linen and assists withquality assurance by examining identifying and rejecting poorquality linen.
FINANCEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Appropriately usesand stores chemicals paper goods supplies and equipment utilizedduring a shift. Reports tracks and assesses wastefulpractices.
- Manages timeeffectively and prioritize department daily tasks minimizingincidentalovertime

- Assumesresponsibility for growth and development. Participates incontinuing education and inservice programs. Actively participatesin EVS shared governance meetings or huddles by contributing ideastowards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of departmentprocesses
