The Senior Physician Assistant (PA) will be responsible for the provision of care and evaluation for the structural heart program.
Other duties will include cardiac consults and to assist with procedures. The PA will provide advanced clinical assistance and support in treating and managing patients as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The PA assesses and provides nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge.
Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
Under general supervision, incumbents perform operational level duties as described in the Series Concept. The major emphasis at this level is ongoing direct patient care delivery.
Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and / or episodic health problems.
Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs, participation in program planning and development of patient education information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
Current PA Certification from NCCPA.
BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.
Two (2) years of full-time experience as a (PA) Physician Assistant in Cardiology.
Position requires special skills and knowledge in the fields of Cardiovascular Medicine.
Proven knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, procedures used in adult medicine including purpose, supplies and / or equipment needed, how to perform test, exam and / or procedure accurately, infection control mechanisms and recording in medical record.
Demonstrated excellent assessment skills and ability to make clinically sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interact positively and effectively with professional and nonprofessional staff, patients, study participants, families, and community support groups.
Demonstrated computer experience using Electronic Medical Records, databases, word processing and spreadsheet.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse population. Demonstration of a high level of professionalism and excellent communication skills.
Ability to function as part of a team.
Excellent organizational skills in order to rapidly prioritize activities in a high-volume, dynamic, multiple demand clinic and hospital setting.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Demonstrated ability to identify when a patient’s needs are outside the scope of your practice and expertise and arranges for additional services to meet needs.
Skill in assessing learning needs of patients and staff.
Ability to problem solve, make decisions and take appropriate actions.
Ability to teach and provide in-services for patients, families and staff.
Knowledge and ability to access appropriate resources and contacts using appropriate channels.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two or more (2+) years of licensed PA work experience with cardiovascular inpatient care.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range : $148,791 - $196,001 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent : $71.26 - $93.87
