Job Description
Candidate will collaborate with Program IPT’s, Suppliers and Shipping Department to coordinate program Packaging and Shipping needs.
Will identify and develop system, subsystems and component packaging and transportation requirement and help develop special packaging instructions (SPI) as required.
Ensures contractual packaging and DOT CFR 49 POP requirements are being met. Shipment may include, Hazardous Materials, Classified or unclassified.
Supports Shipping Day to Day’ Operations. Evaluates new packaging techniques to improve the Shipping Process. Works with vendors, Integrated product teams and customers to improve packaging designs.
Performs root cause analysis on Damaged Shipments.
Candidate will be the program’s primary point of contact (POC) and coordinate Truck requests through the LM Shipping department for all MFC sites.
Provide truck contact information to site personnel. Ensure all necessary crates and / or packaging are provided for packaging hardware on site.
Tracks condition of reusable shipping crates and initiate repair or replacement as needed. Maintain list of contacts for each site along with unique shipping requirements for each site.
Prepare any parts, assemblies, and materials for shipment in accordance with applicable vendor and customer specifications, standards and Company shipping instructions and process Shipping documents.
Prepare address labels and other shipping container identification, determining appropriate nomenclature in accordance with applicable customer, Department of Transportation and Company specifications and standards.
Load on transport vehicle, check and block crated, uncrated, or unpacked raw stock, parts, assemblies, components, and materials.
Process shipping documents. Arrange for required inspections. Initiate documentation to order shipping containers and packaging supplies from vendors using the purchase request and other applicable system.
Candidate must have the ability
- to use the Company purchase request and other applicable computer systems. Ability to apply knowledge of MSDS in order to receive, inventory and identify hazardous materials.
- to operate transportation carrier, computerized shipping meters, label makers and shipment pricing devices.
- to read blueprints.
- to use strapping, cutting and carton-making machines, and processing equipment such as spray guns and brushes, electric or motor-powered material moving carts, floor-controlled cranes and hoists, weighing and counting scales, power saws, hand tools and portable drills.
Candidate will
- plan and conduct Performance Oriented Packaging Testing and Reporting. Ensuring all Packaging, Handling and Storage (PHS) program / technical reviews are scheduled and conducted.
- develop initial packaging and packing required to ship system equipment to support test flights, ground tests, Logistic Demonstration and System Support Package requirements will be best commercial packaging utilizing procedures outlined in American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) D 3951.
