5th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004 USA Position Highlights The University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as associate dean for Clinical Curriculum.
This position will report to the vice dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and serve as a member of the College of Medicine Phoenix (COM-P) senior leadership team.
The associate dean for Clinical Curriculum will have responsibility for further evaluating, developing, implementing and monitoring the clinical curriculum in a distributive model with many clinical partners in the Phoenix metropolitan area and across the state.
The associate dean for Clinical Curriculum will be expected to oversee multiple clinical sites and a large team of clerkship and site directors across the state and ensure student learning experiences are high quality and comparable across all sites.
The College curriculum is integrated across four years, and includes, required clerkships, electives, longitudinal clinical experiences, interprofessional education and student wellness and career development.
The successful candidate will spend approximately FTE fulfilling the responsibilities of the associate dean role and FTE as a clinician at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix.
Also, it is expected that the candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in clinical care, teaching and / or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Work with Clinical Curriculum Subcommittee to oversee the clerkship and site directors and a dedicated staff in the delivery of required clerkships and electives at the college’s clinical affiliates and other sites in the larger Phoenix metropolitan area and across the state.
- Work with the undergraduate medical education leadership team to oversee and evaluate the integration of the foundational curriculum into the clinical years, promote Interprofessional Education and track performance outcomes and LCME standards.
- Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements (LCME) for medical schools.
- Oversee the efforts of the directors of the Longitudinal Patient Care courses and the Personal and Professional Development courses in years 3 and 4.
- Oversee the budget preparation and administration of the Clinical Curriculum sub-unit.
- Serve in an ex officio capacity on the Curriculum Committee, Clinical Competency Subcommittee, Assessment and Evaluation Sub-Committee and other committees as needed.
- Work closely with the College’s education leadership, department chairs and other institutional leadership to ensure coordinated integration of clinical education with other college functions.
- Work and build relationships and collaborations among support staff, faculty and administrative leadership across the College, University and clinical partners.
- Promote and contribute to educational scholarship and / or research in areas of expertise.
Minimum Qualifications
- Hold an MD, DO or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Hold current board certification in an area of clinical medicine and be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.
- Be eligible for medical staff membership at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix.
- Have at least 8 years of teaching experience in medical education.
- Have a minimum of 5 years of educational leadership, including oversight and administrative experience in developing clinical curriculum and assessment.
- Exhibit a record of excellence as a skilled leader with the ability to develop teams, measure and improve productivity and outcomes and undertake appropriate business strategies to achieve goals that align with the College’s vision and mission.
- Have educational experience in curriculum development, implementation, assessment and evaluation in medical education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Have experience with competency-based educational approaches.
- Have extensive knowledge of the principles of adult education and active learning.
- Have experience developing, leading and managing internal and external collaborative relationships with clinical and other community partners.
- Demonstrate experience and productivity in education research and scholarship.
- Have national or international presence in a health- or medical education-related field or academic medicine.
