Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role in the Los Angeles area for a Sr. Power Systems Engineer. The role will be responsible for the from-scratch development of thermo-electric power plant hardware including the following :

  • Design and size electrical systems for power generation.
  • Develop and implement high-power system components, including generators, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical and systems engineering teams to integrate the electrical system with the overall plant design.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate motors and generators for the system, considering efficiency, cost, and reliability.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Perform simulations and analysis to validate system performance.
  • Oversee the installation and testing of the electrical systems and generators.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during design, testing, and implementation phases.

The role will involve working closely with thermodynamics and turbomachinery experts, hardware design engineers, and build engineering resources.

Over the course of the coming months and years the team will be working closely together to develop from-scratch and novel hardware at increasingly larger scales.

This role will adapt and change significantly over time as the company grows and changes. Candidates must be willing to be flexible in their work and help do what it takes to build the startup.

Looking for candidates with very strong fundamentals and experience applying them in the real world including hands-on experience with hardware they have developed.

Compensation includes significant equity stake in the startup.

Job title and salary is variable based on the applicant and will be chosen to best suit the hire's level.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in power generation, electrical system design, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of high-power systems, motor design, and electrical system integration.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, safety protocols, and best practices in electrical engineering.
  • Experience with generator sizing, selection, and implementation.
  • Experience in first principles system sizing and modeling
  • Experience with from-scratch design of hardware as well as bringing up production processes to manufacture at rate
  • Hands-on hardware experience required
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and team-working skills
  • Highly self-motivated
