Summary of Position :

The EHS Systems and Communications Advisor is a pivotal role within an organization responsible for evaluating current EHS data / systems and to develop performance metrics to engage with field operations, leadership for continuous improvement in EHS performance.

Equally important is the role in crafting and executing communication strategies to effectively conveying the organization's messages, enhancing its reputation, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders.

This role demands strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, and the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

The advisor provides support and technical expertise during emergency situations and collaborates on the development and maintenance of the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) management system.

The advisor also works closely with senior leadership to align communication efforts with organizational goals and objectives.

Primary Job Responsibilities :

  • Direct the implementation, development, and execution of EHS systems and processes in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Advise on EHS issues and improving the site’s EHS systems and processes.
  • Collaborate closely with IT and EHS teams to orchestrate seamless data imports / exports and integrations between ACTS and other critical EHS systems.
  • Manage compliance with EHS requirements and submit reports to relevant authorities.
  • Drive the creation of comprehensive reporting and dynamic dashboards for robust compliance reporting, data monitoring, and trend analysis.
  • Engage actively with Operations and EHS teams, providing guidance and support on various projects and programs.
  • Develop and deliver safety workshops and in-house training materials and programs.
  • Facilitate and contribute to EHS meetings, offering valuable data driven insights and support in line with organizational goals.
  • Ensure ongoing EHS improvements and compliance with legal and global standards.
  • Participate in risk assessments for EHS hazards and participating in safety improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate autonomy in delivering results, meeting set objectives, and spearheading process improvement initiatives independently.
  • Provide data-driven insights and analysis to support the decision-making process of the Leadership team, offering recommendations based on internal and external data.
  • Participate on the Incident Management Team as required and attend IMT trainings and annual exercises. Support crisis communications when necessary.
  • Provide insight and generate internal communication, working closely with EHS, Sustainability and Government Relations and other internal stakeholders.

Helps to craft compelling narratives to effectively communicate the organization’ vision and values.

  • Support the development of integrated communications and public affairs strategy aligned with the organization’s corporate vision and objectives.
  • Provides support for various external communications including speech writing, presentation development and outreach efforts.
  • Develops communication tools including videos, print, television, web, and radio advertising, brochures, and other collateral as needed to support delivery of business objectives.

  • Adaptability : Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and navigate complex organizational dynamics.
  • Excellent Communication Skills : Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for different audiences and channels.
  • Crisis Communication : Proficiency in managing communication during crisis situations to mitigate reputational damage.
  • Creativity : Ability to generate innovative ideas for communication content and internal and external campaigns for appropriate audience.
  • Digital Communication : Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms, including social media, content management systems, and email marketing software.
  • Media Relations : Knowledge of media landscape and experience in building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets.

Education & Experience :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in relevant field in science, environmental science, law or related discipline. Engineering or Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in oil and gas with relevant experience in EHS systems, data, integration and communication.
  • Experience in EHS programs, risk assessment and management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.

Travel / Work Requirements :

  • Work is performed at a CIVI location Tue-Thurs; option to work remotely on Mon and Fri as business needs allow and with manager approval.
  • Schedule : traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9 hour works days M-Thurs and 4-hour workdays Friday as business needs allow and with manager approval.
  • Travel required to the Civitas field locations or offices as needed.
