We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of :
RECREATIONAL THERAPIST / BEHAVIORAL HEALTH UNIT
The RECREATIONAL THERAPIST is an integral member of the interdisciplinary patient care team responsible for therapeutic procedures and programs to maintain and / or restore patient’s physical, psychological, intellectual and social capabilities.
The RECREATIONAL THERAPIST directs patient participation in selected activities such as games and social activities to create an atmosphere of sociability.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Facilitates initial and ongoing assessment; provides group and individual treatment interventions; coordinates care objects in collaboration with the patient care team.
Evaluates and assesses patient needs relative to gross motor coordination, group behavior, interpersonal relationships, and proficiency in various recreation and leisure activities.
Establishes treatment objectives and determines modalities by which they can be achieved.
Implements a range of individual and group recreation activities based upon the evaluation and treatment objectives.
Maintains records and makes written and oral reports concerning patient care and treatment.
Maintains current information on community resources and assists patients in the process of post-hospital integration.
Creates an environment that allows the patient to explore his / her own potential, cultivate positive moral and minimize distress of illness.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy or related discipline.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTST) preferred
One (1) year experience in a mental health or related setting preferred. New graduate eligible for certification may be considered.
Current American Heart Association (BLS) certification.
Excellent listening and interpersonal skills

Ability to exercise professional judgement in performing day-to-day activities, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures
