Thesurgery unit has 29 beds. Our dynamic patient population includessurgical, trauma and a variety of medical patients. Our surgeriestypically involve the neck to the gut.
This population includes GIsurgeries such as colon resections, small bowel resections,cholecystectomies and appendectomies.
We also care for vascularsurgeries, mastectomies, thyroidectomies and maxillofacialprocedures, etc. Patients may have an ostomy, NGT and / or otherfeeding tube and / or drains.
Trauma patients may have multipleinjuries, chest tubes, a tracheostomy and / or other drains, but havestabilized enough for a non-ICU / step down med-surg floor admission.
We are a level 2 traumacenter.

RESPONSIBLE FOR :
The staff nurse provides nursing care topatients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursingprocesses to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care forpatients.
He / she functions within the framework of the policies andprocedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growthand accountability.
The staff nurse is responsible for maintainingstandards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of allassigned staff in the provision of quality nursingcare.
Qualifications :
MINIMUMEDUCATION REQUIRED :
Graduate of a nursingprogram
MINIMUM EXPERIENCEREQUIRED :
New Graduates of a nursing programeligible
MINIMUMLICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW :
CurrentLicense in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC / eNLCMultistate License.
BLS certificationrequired.
ADDITIONALQUALIFICATIONS :
For PRN positions : One year ofnursing experience in a hospital setting preferred
Bachelors degree preferred
Advancedcertification in field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum)
