Signal Maintainer

Overview

SUMMARY : Repairs, inspects, and installs systems, apparatus, and components of railroad signaling systems and highway traffic control devices.

Responsibilities

• Installs railroad signaling equipment and highway traffic control devices according to layout plans and / or FRA regulations.
• Maintains signaling and traffic control devices; analyzes operational malfunctioning with testing devices to locate, diagnose, and ascertain repairs to be made.
• Examines mechanisms and disassembles components to replace, clean, adjust, or repair parts, wires, relays, circuits, or signaling units.
• Operates and tests equipment to ensure elimination of malfunction.
• Climbs poles or digs trenches to install or repair equipment.
• Maintains written electronic records of all tests, inspections, and repairs performed.
