Description

Provides installation, repair, and maintenance of various electrical systems, equipment, and components throughout the district.

Performs work in a manner that : ensures the efficient use of district resources; promotes a positive and productive team environment;

and provides safe and high-quality educational environments for students, staff and patrons of Spokane Public Schools.

  • HOURS PER DAY : 8
  • YEAR ROUND POSITION (260 DAYS / 12 MONTHS)
  • ANTICIPATED START DATE : ASAP

SALARY : LEVEL 1 on the Electrician Salary Schedule. Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar permanent position within a Washington State public school.

Responsibilities

Alter, maintain, repair, or install wiring, cables, switches, controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, instrument panels, distribution panels, power circuits, and communications circuits;

may construct new facilities from blueprints and specifications.

  • Modify, adjust, maintain, repair, or install electric motors, equipment, and instruments such as pumps, clocks, lamps, stoves, electrical meters, timers, fans, air conditioners, power tools, motors, variable frequency drives and security system hardware and software.
  • Inspect and repair electrical systems, communication systems, and equipment to detect and correct faulty components or parts.
  • Read and understand plans, blueprints, sketches, and control diagrams.
  • Perform alterations, adjustments, modification, repair, and installation of electrical equipment in compliance with district standards and code requirements.
  • Conduct routine maintenance schedules for servicing intercoms, P.A. systems, house phones, scoreboards, clock systems, fire alarm systems, security systems, intrusion systems, emergency lighting systems, kitchen equipment, industrial arts equipment, small appliance repair, and general electrical and lighting systems.
  • Use computers and technology related tools and applications : email, Microsoft Teams for work collaboration, virtual meeting platforms, cell phones and various mobile applications.
  • Observe safety rules and regulations.
  • Follow district procurement card and purchasing policy.
  • Perform related duties as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
  • Journeyman electrician having completed recognized apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform service and repair work on all electrical equipment as described under performance responsibilities.

Must have commercial journey level electrical installation and service experience. Preferred institutional and large facility experience.

  • Valid Washington State electrical license required.
  • Valid driver's license required and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform service and repair work on fire alarm systems preferred. Must possess or obtain NICET-I Certification within 18 months after probationary period and NICET-II Certification within 36 months after probationary period.
  • Demonstrated safety record and ability to work in a safe manner, following safety procedures.
  • Ability to perform service and repair work on intercoms, P.A. systems, house phones, scoreboards, and clock systems preferred.
  • Ability to work with fiber optics preferred and Cat 5 cables. Understand limitations of Cat 5 performance in relation to proper cable installation.
  • Ability to service, adjust, or repair electrical and electronic control systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the national, state, and local electrical codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and follow plans, blueprints, sketches, and / or instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate and work effectively with a diverse group of co-workers and staff in a confidential manner.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
  • Ability to take and carry out directions with minimum supervision.
  • Asbestos workers card preferred or willing to obtain the card.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computers and technology related tools and applications : email, Microsoft Teams for work collaboration, virtual meeting platforms, cell phones and various mobile applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical systems. Check proper sequence and operations.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  • Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement () as negotiated.
