Captura’s unique technology was developed and proven in Caltech’s laboratories and uses established electrochemical concepts to enable gigaton-scalable solutions for removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere via direct ocean capture.
We capture carbon dioxide using only renewable electricity and ocean water, producing no by-products.
Role Description
Captura is seeking a pilot plant operator to join the 100 Ton carbon capture system pilot plant team. This position will assist the team in the operation and maintenance of the pilot plant located in San Pedro, California.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who collaborates effectively, communicates clearly, helps drive progress and works efficiently in a fast-paced and changing environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Understand and apply basic understanding of water chemistry
- Learn and become proficient in the operation of Captura’s 100 ton Direct Ocean Capture (DOC) system, with a focus on owning the operation of 1 to 2 subsystems
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and document all activities on pumps, motors, contactors and other mechanical / process control and analytical equipment
- Use a range of hand and shop tools such as drills, saws, wrenches et cetera
- Maintain specified records and logs for subsystem performance, maintenance and logs of the overall DOC system operation and performance data
- Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, and resolve them when they arise.
- Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Cooperate with the Captura’s R&D team
- Implement precise laboratory techniques including, but not limited to, preparation of reagents, preparation of analytical standards, sample analysis and quality control, and logging sample analysis results to document and track the performance of the pilot plant
Educational / Experience Requirements :
- B.S. in an engineering discipline (I.e. mechanical, chemical, industrial, environmental), or related technical field
- 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in the operation of industrial systems (chemical, petrochemical, water, mining, oil & gas plants, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of industrial equipment, and chemical, mechanical, electrical and process control systems.
- Basic understanding of chemistry in support of Captura DOC systems
- Ability to work independently in small teams.
- Must be able and willing to work on a stationary barge, lift equipment, stand on feet for prolonged periods of time, climb ladders and work outside (including in inclement weather).
- Selectee must be willing to work occasional weekends and / or odd hours
