The Opportunity and Role :

Capital One’s Community Finance team originates debt and equity to support affordable housing development. Community Finance provides debt financing, and invests in low income housing credits through proprietary and multi equity funds.

The Underwriting, Portfolio & Loan Management team is primarily responsible for underwriting, managing and administering community lending and investments, primarily through proprietary and multi-investor Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) funds.

The team partners with internal and external stakeholders to underwrite new affordable housing transactions, manage and administer the portfolio of debt and equity exposure, and ensure a scalable and well-managed business.

The team endeavors to create an environment that supports efficient and impactful risk management in support building inclusive, thriving resident-centered communities that catalyze opportunity and promote well-being.

We are seeking a passionate, motivated, emotionally intelligent Director to lead and inspire a team of associates focused on underwriting, managing and administering the portfolio of strategy-aligned multi-family housing development debt and equity exposure.

Your team will enhance our understanding of communities and Capital One’s opportunities to promote socioeconomic mobility.

Primary Responsibilities Include :

Leadership and Innovation :

Lead your team in best-in-class management of relationships; develop and maintain the company’s relationships with existing clients and industry stakeholders;

gather market intelligence by forging deep relationships; understand how Capital One shows up in our local communities and how we can help move the needle on socioeconomic mobility.

Harness your team’s market intelligence to bring insights to broader External Affairs, shaping perspectives and informing lending and investment decisions;

share intelligence with peers across the company to deepen our shared understanding, promote collaboration, and maximize impact

Collaborate with executive leaders, your team, and other key stakeholders to establish business goals, plan portfolio growth, manage new and existing relationships, and perform proper pre-qualification, structuring, pricing, underwriting, management and administration of debt and equity investments

Lead across the organization to effectively manage risk, support new business initiatives and continuously well-managed processes

Craft a shared vision for the future, leveraging your expertise, leadership, and influence to provide clarity in complex situations, inspire breakthrough innovation and drive results

Excellence & Risk Management :

Maintain overall responsibility for the credit and investment review and approval process, portfolio management and construction loan administration throughout the deal lifecycle with an enterprise mindset collaborating broadly with internal and external partners to ensure the highest level of impact and service

Regularly evaluate and contribute to the improvement of our processes; always look to drive simple, scalable impact and durable results

Maintain a strong working knowledge of the bank, its customers, portfolio exposure, competitive environment, economic trends and policies

Partner with business and Community Finance functions to foster an environment of open dialogue around risk tolerance and credit appetite

Identify and assess the risk profile of debt and equity investments and propose grounded solutions to ensure risk is mitigated and client objectives are met within appropriate credit, investment and regulatory guidelines

Partner seamlessly with internal and external teams to develop and meet key milestones throughout the deal lifecycle

Coordinate with various CF functional teams and other departments in the servicing of client relationships

Oversee periodic reporting requirements

Basic Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree or military experience

At least 8 years of experience in strategy, business development, underwriting, or asset management in the field of affordable housing or commercial real estate

At least 3 years of experience with mission-driven lending or investments or community development lending or investments

At least 3 years of experience in people leadership

Preferred Qualifications :

Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master’s degree in Finance, Real Estate or other related discipline

10+ years of affordable housing, community development, LIHTC experience

5+ years of experience in people leadership

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and accuracy

Completion of a commercial credit training program, or extensive credit, financial analysis and financial modeling experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting.

Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
