POSITION SUMMARY : Perform the duties in Urgent Care required to provide support for providers in all aspects of patient care under the supervision of a physician, physician's assistant, nurse practitioner or licensed nurse which will meet the specific needs of the patient(s) presenting for care.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
Education : High School diploma or equivalent, Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant Program required.
Experience : A minimum of 1-2 years' experience in an emergency department, urgent care or other clinical setting.
Skills and Abilities : which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position :
- Ability to perform accurate blood drawing techniques.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere with HIPAA guidelines.
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing schedules.
- Strong interpersonal, time management and organization skills.
- Ability to be a quick thinker and relate to all levels of staff and patients.
- Team-oriented, energetic with strong customer service skills.
- Cultural sensitivity required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and / or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience required.
License(s) / Certification(s) Required :
- Certificate from Medical Assistant Training program.
- CPR Certification.
Essential Functions
- Performs patient intake (i.e. blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, respirations, weights and measurements) on patients for medical examination.
- Accurately document chief complaints, vital signs, weight, brief history, past history, family and social history, current mediations, allergies and other pertinent historical information as appropriate.
- Performs tests (i.e. blood glucose test, urine dipstick, pulse oximetry, vision tests, hearing screens and EKGs).
- Notifies Provider and / or Clinic Nurse Coordinator of abnormal vital signs, blood glucose, hearing and vision abnormalities and / or EKG results.
- Complete tasks as assigned with licensed oversight, i.e. eye lavages, ear irrigation, ace wraps, suture or staple removal from superficial incisions or lacerations, etc.
- Gives medications / immunizations as ordered per route (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and sub-dermal).
- Prepares, maintains exam rooms assuring that they are cleaned and stocked; performs sterilization of instruments.
- Adhere to infection control / safety guidelines and patient confidentiality policies.
- Responsible for general office procedures (i.e. venipunctures, dressing changes and nebulizer treatments).
- Operate diagnostic equipment but cannot interpret tests.
- Perform CPR and render first aid in an emergency.
- Ensure that equipment is in proper working order and report any malfunction to the Director of Health Center Operations or Physician on duty.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Position may require travel to other area sites due to staffing needs
