Position Profile :

Assists nursing personnel in provision of basic care for residents and necessary unit tasks and functions in compliance with the facility's policies, and procedures, and applicable regulations of Illinois Department of Public Health.

Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities

Assists patients in the following areas :

  • Personal care functions including :
  • Bathing (bed, tub, shower or sponge bath)
  • Skin Care
  • Toileting (bedpan, urinal, commode and / or toilet)
  • Grooming (shampoo, nail care & shaving)
  • Oral Hygiene (denture care)
  • Assist with dressing and undressing
  • Assists with feeding of residents.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge for safe use of medical equipment (cane, crutches, walkers, Hoyer Lift, side rails, brace, splints, oxygen).
  • Helps keep residents' rooms clean and supplied.
  • Make and change beds (unoccupied and occupied).
  • Transports residents, supplies and equipment as needed. Utilize proper transfer and lifting techniques.
  • Assists nurses and other personnel as needed.
  • Ambulate residents who require minimal assistance.
  • Perform skin assessment and notify Charge Nurse of any abnormalities in skin integrity.
  • Assists in turning and positioning of residents.
  • Applies heat or cold compresses as.directed by Charge Nurse.
  • Answer residents calls and takes appropriate action.
  • Collects and labels specimens (urine, stool, sputum).
  • Measures and records vital signs / weights and intake / outputs and report variation to Charge Nurse.
  • Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, etc., in an informative and descriptive manner.
  • Immediately reports any changes in client's condition and all accidents / incidents to the Charge Nurse on the shift that they occurred.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals to your supervisor.
  • Report all complaints and grievances made by the resident, resident families, and visitors to the Charge Nurse.
  • Participates in care plan meetings with other members of the healthcare team as appropriate.
  • Maintains confidentiality in relation to all residents, healthcare staff and documentation.
  • Meets annual in-service requirements in accordance with Agency policy and state regulations.
  • Maintains and enhances skill through attending appropriate staff development training.
  • Appearance is professional and complies with agency dress code.
  • Maintains a cooperative manner towards client / family and all members of the healthcare team.
  • Create a safe, loving, and homelike environment for Residents.
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned.

Demonstrates and maintains a positive professional manner, manages time efficiently and effectively, promotes a team approach, participates in appropriate problem solving methods.

With respect to resident rights, ensures all care is provided with respect and dignity for residents, reports all complaints made by residents and / or families to supervisor, reports all allegations of abuse, misappropriation of funds / resident property, or any other compliance items immediately.

Maintain confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive information about residents, family, employees, and IPH residence.

May be requested to work on shifts other than the one for which you were hired and subject to call

back during emergency conditions.

Must enjoy working with the senior population.

Perform job duties in a manner that aligns with the IPH mission of providing a gracious senior living in a Christian surrounding.

Demonstrate good interpersonal teamwork and communication skills.

Education :

Must possess, as a minimum, high school education or its equivalent.

Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with Illinois laws and regulations.

Physical Demands :

Capable of walking long distances, lifting, and carrying weight up to 40 lbs. and push and pull 100 lbs.

Must be able to work around hazardous chemicals wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.

Must be able to operate equipment safely and effectively.

Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Mental Demands :

Ability to understand vague to implicit instructions and react favorably in all work situations. Ability to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under time restraints.

Must handle novel and diverse work problems on a daily basis.

Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people. Ability to provide verbal feedback in a professional manner.

Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position.
