We are seeking a high performing Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our team. Come Find Your Spark at Quartz!

The Senior Actuarial Analyst performs data analysis, risk assessment, and financial modeling. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide insights, and recommendations that drive strategic decision making and ensure the financial stability of the company.

This position will also perform analytical tasks to support the corporate strategic initiatives and develop models used for pricing and financial processes.

Using subject matter expertise, this role will lead work efforts in providing accurate pricing, filing rates appropriately, and setting adequate reserves.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze large datasets using statistical techniques to extract meaningful insights and trends.
  • Develop and maintain actuarial models to assess risk and predict future outcomes.
  • Conduct sensitivity analysis and scenario testing to evaluate the impact of different variables on financial projections.
  • Identify analytical needs and problems. Design viable solutions by considering a wide range of sources, tools, and techniques.

Complete comprehensive data analysis and interpret results to support business decisions. Develop data insights that lead to a deeper understanding, quantification, and management of risks.

Recommend actionable items to further corporate strategic objectives.

Work closely with peers and other business units such as Product Management, Sales, Underwriting, Finance, Analytics, and Provider Services.

Distill complex topics to clearly communicate findings to stakeholders. Develop relationships to effectively collaborate across departments.

  • Lead pricing of insurance products by performing rate reviews, loss ratio analysis, and competitor benchmarking.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to assess the financial feasibility of new product initiatives. Bring forward recommendations based on analysis and product expertise.
  • Design and implement underwriting guidelines and risk classifications systems.
  • Conduct ad hoc financial analyses, provide insights, and recommendations to support decision making by senior management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Finance, Accounting, or related business field
  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Progress towards and commitment to attaining ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) : 3+ exams passed
  • Health insurance experience / expertise is preferred
  • Must have experience MS Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, link workbooks)
  • Demonstrates actuarial experience in pricing, reserving, and / or other financial analysis with a customer service focus
  • Ability to file rates in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of analytical software and the ability to learn a wide variety of tools, data sources, and computer applications
  • Personality traits that reflect an individual who is well-organized, a creative problem solver, and able to deliver results with attention to detail
  • Displays ability to lead successful projects from start to end
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks to ensure timely delivery of financially impactful work and other required analysis
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders

This position can work 100% remotely or from our office in Madison, WI in a hybrid or full-time on-site arrangement, if preferred.

Hardware and equipment will be provided by the company, but candidates must have access to high-speed, non-satellite Internet to successfully work from home.
