SUMMARY
The Senior Surgical Technician assumes responsibility and accountability for the preparation of operating rooms for surgery and / or invasive procedures.
Performs a variety of technical duties during complex and extensive surgical procedures. He / she follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives and safety standards and may assist the surgeons during the procedure within his / her scope of practice.
The Senior Surgical Tech is also responsible for training, mentoring and orientation of other Surgical Technicians. He / she maintains aseptic techniques when indicated, maintains correct count of instruments, sutures and sponges and labels specimens correctly in accordance with the policy.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Experience : 4 years of previous experience as a Surgical Technologist for complex procedures required; previous experience with training and orienting other Surgical Technologists is required.
- Certification of Surgical Technologist preferred.
- Required License / Certifications : BLS card provided by AHA; ABM / MAB / CPI certificate within 90 days upon hire and annually thereafter.
- Has full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
- Physical Requirements : Possesses the physical abilities, including heavy lifting, and perceptive acuity, e.g., visual, hearing, to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions.
