Ladder Rank Faculty Position - Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor

Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics

University of California, San Francisco

The UCSF Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics is seeking faculty to join our vibrant, collaborative, and supportive discovery research community at the Mission Bay Campus in San Francisco.

We seek creative, innovative scientists who define and address fundamental questions in any area of modern biology, including basic and biomedical sciences, biochemistry, evolutionary biology, structural biology, cell biology, developmental biology, systems biology, and computational biology.

We provide faculty with resources to effectively launch their program, including a strong mentoring culture, a highly competitive start-up package, administrative support, and facilities for advanced light and cryo-electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, high-throughput small molecule screening, cytometry, and state-of-the-art animal care.

Tenure-track faculty candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, to have demonstrated significant research accomplishment and potential, and to be committed to the mentorship of students and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in research and to promote the success of our diverse student population.

The successful candidate will establish a dynamic and interactive research program and join one or more of our top-ranked interdisciplinary graduate programs (see https : / / graduate.

Faculty appointment will be made at a professorial rank commensurate with current academic standing. UCSF offers competitive salaries, research set-up funds, and recruitment allowances, and has numerous opportunities for faculty development and further training in mentorship.

C. Contributions to Science. Briefly describe up to five of your most significant contributions to science. The description of each contribution should be no longer than 300 words.

For each contribution, include the following :

  • The historical background that frames the scientific problem;
  • The central finding(s);
  • The influence of the finding(s) on the progress of science or the application of those finding(s) to health or technology; and;
  • Your specific role in the described work. Figures, tables, or graphics are not allowed. For each contribution, you may cite up to four publications or research products that are relevant to the contribution.

You may cite published papers or publicly available preprints deposited on a server (e.g. BioRxiv). Note that we will not accept confidential manuscripts as attachments to the application.

  • D. Link to published work. Include a single link to your published work (including preprints), NIH My Bibliography, Google Scholar, or ORCID are all acceptable.
  • A description of future research plans; Ideally, this is 2 pages, including figures - but not including references.
  • A one-page teaching statement, including formal and informal mentoring activities; and
  • Statement of Contributions to Diversity - Statement of contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion with particular attention to formal and informal mentoring activities.
