UNIV-Trades Specialist V- Asst. Supervisor-Carpenter Shops

Performs journeyman level carpentry work including indirect supervision of trades workers and helpers. Skills must be sufficient to satisfactorily perform related carpentry projects. Work includes constructing new or repairing existing buildings, walls, windows, doors, bookshelves, casework, etc. Contributes to a team effort and harmonious working relationship with others in the Engineering and Facilities Department and throughout MUSC.

20%- Develops materials list to procure materials and supplies needed for job assignments. Assist to order, receive, and organize materials and tools. Maintain accurate records of inventory and ensure tools are well maintained and accounted for

20%- Performs work in safe manner; uses care in working with shop and personal tools and equipment; conserves supplies and work as efficiently as possible; documents labor and materials accurately. Ensure safety equipment (PPE) is available and accessible; follow and maintain safety protocols. Assist with coordination of regular shop safety meetings and maintain logs. Document work performance and aid in improvement or correction when required.

30%- Help manage and coordinate the daily activities of carpenter technicians. Ensure proper work allocation based on skills and project needs. Check that carpentry work meets quality and industry standards. Track timelines and help ensure projects stay on schedule as well as ensuring proper and adequate materials, labor and tolls are available. Drives pickup truck to deliver and pick up materials and personnel; cleans shop area, job sites; performs related and non-related duties as required.

30%- Performs various carpentry projects. Work includes constructing new or repairing existing buildings, walls, windows, doors, bookshelves, casework, cabinetry, etc. Installs suspended ceilings; works with laminate and plexiglass; partitions, builds and installs shelves, blackboards, bulletin boards, etc.

Minimum Requirements : A high school diploma and three years trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment. Some positions require a commercial driver's license. Some positions require EPA-approved freon recovery certification.

(Continuous) Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function. (Continuous) Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more, assisted.
