Calvary Church Accounting Manager
Calvary Church, Lancaster, PA
Title : Accounting Manager
Reports to : David C. Hostetter, Business Manager
Status : Full-time / exempt / salaried
Purpose : To assist Calvary Church, its members and guests to pursue life in Christ, by modeling Biblical stewardship, providing appropriate and accurate accounting, recordkeeping and administrative support, timely filing of all required local, state and federal government documents and provide recommendations regarding the church’s sources and uses of funds as needed or requested.
Working Relationship :
- Accountability to the Senior Pastor and Finance Committee
- Reports directly to the Calvary Church Business Manager
Qualifications :
- Business and / or church ministry and / or financial experience. Strong background in accounting and accounting systems, and general ledger sub-accounting
- Organizational abilities to manage a wide range of ministry needs, meet deadlines and timely completion of financial reports.
- A thorough knowledge of Scripture and its relevance to Biblical stewardship
- Ability to manage a wide range of financial, payroll, tax, accounting and banking issues.
- Competency and accuracy in accounting, banking and finance.
- An ability to be a team-player within the staff and lead teams of volunteers, while at the same time providing objective guidance and financial advice.
- Protect the reputation and integrity of others through strict confidentiality. Demonstrates a high level of trust.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Exemplify Biblical Stewardship relative to all aspects of finances of Calvary Church.
- Provide Biblical-based financial recommendations to church leadership and Business Manager as needed, requested or deemed appropriate.
- Collaborate with church leadership and the church Business Manager relative to financial matters of the church
- Maintain appropriate and accurate accounting records, such as : accounts payable and receivable, payroll, general ledger, monthly financial reports, bank accounts, investment and other special accounts, tax reporting, and individual contribution records.
- Working closely with the Business Manager, assist the church leadership team in developing and preparing the church budget.
- Cooperate with outside auditors in the annual audit process.
- Coordinate the counting and reporting of weekly offerings.
- Receive, record and acknowledge gifts to the church while maintaining confidentiality
- Prepare and mail giving statements to donors
- Attend meetings as required or requested.
- Supervise accounting clerk / s
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the Business Manager or Senior Pastor.
Additional ministry :
Pray for the ministry of the church and represent the church positively in the community.
Work Schedule and Time Allotment
Work schedule : 40 hours or more per week, exempt from overtime, to be managed and accounted for in cooperation with position’s direct supervisor.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Light physical work requirements; some lifting (up to 40 pounds), frequent travel to and from the bank or outside meetings in differing weather conditions and prolonged use of computer monitors and keyboards.
Data entry involving prolonged visual demands.
Creative thinking, conceptual, collaborative, and listening skills. Must be able to present ideas and allow for adoption, adaptation or elimination of those ideas.
