Job Summary :
Full time position in the Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. This position will primarily have responsibility at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Anschutz Medical Campus on the PHM Complex Pulmonary MD / APP team and secondary responsibilities on the general medical pediatric inpatient MD / APP teams.
This position will work independently and in collaboration with pediatric hospitalist and pulmonary physicians, advance practice providers, APP and physician fellows, RTs, and nurses to provide high quality acute and complex care to patients with primary pulmonary conditions and high medical complexity.
After two years of experience, some clinical time may also be in the Children's Hospital of Colorado Network of Care, including clinical obligations providing pediatric provider coverage at Vail Health in a remote, community hospital setting.
This position will include day and nocturnist shifts and includes weekends and holidays at these locations. Additionally, in response to unforeseen crisis staffing situations this position may entail some short-term cross-coverage to other inpatient settings within CHCO.

Key Responsibilities :
- Performs direct front line care of inpatient pulmonary and complex discharge planning / coordination in collaboration with the Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine consultant service.
- Performs direct front line care of the general medicine pediatric population of all age ranges, developmental, nutritional and physiological status in the inpatient setting.
- The APP works independently within the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality inpatient care and disease management for a variety of pediatric inpatient conditions of varying acuity and complexity from admission through discharge, including coordination of discharge planning with case managers, social work, nurses, and other medical personnel.
- History and physical examinations and determination of treatment plans.
- Monitoring of illness progression and escalation of care for decompensating patients.
- LP procedural skills and privilege maintenance (initial procedural privileging can be obtained upon employment if not already privileged).
- Participates in multi-disciplinary care including team meetings and patient care conferences.
- Nocturnist role : Coverage of AMC PHM complex pulmonary, coverage of transitional respiratory and airway center for kids (TRACK), and general medical inpatient teams, including admissions, transfers, stabilization of decompensating patients with in-house support provided by PHM faculty physician and APP nocturnists.
No patients are admitted to TRACK overnight. Support from pulmonologist for TRACK patients will be provided by telephone / secure chat.
VAIL HEALTH : ED consultations for pediatric patients, stabilization of decompensating patients with potential for facilitating code situations, determination of appropriate disposition from ED or outside facility, including arranging transport, independent management of pediatric inpatients from admission through discharge with physician telehealth backup.
Participation in pediatric education for Vail Health staff, as well as building and maintaining relationships within the Vail Valley healthcare community is expected.
Attendance and participation at monthly staff meetings is required.
