Summary :
All pharmacy technicians work under the direction ofClinical Pharmacists to provide pharmacy services with compassion,excellence and efficiency.
CHRISTUS Santa RosaHospital - Medical Center (CSRH-MC), located in the South TexasMedical Center, provides a high-level of care through compassionatehands, experience physicians, and advanced technology, includingthe da Vinci Surgical Robot System and the Mako™ Robotic-ArmAssisted System.
Services at the 178- bed facility include AcuteCare of the Elderly Unit, cardiology, diabetes care, emergencycare, general surgery, kidney transplantation at the CHRISTUSTransplant Institute, orthopedics, outpatient rehabilitation andaquatic therapy, Senior Behavioral Health Center, urology, and theWound Care and Hyperbaric Center.

- Must be 18 yearsor older.
- Pharmacy Technicians perform ONLYnon-judgmental technical duties under the direct supervision of apharmacist.
Operational Duties andResponsibilities
- Assist Pharmacistswith Medication Histories.
- Train Tech Iassociates.
- Prepares drug orders per physicianrequest according to established policies, procedures andprotocols.
- Verifies computerized patientmedication records accurately. Maintains, accurate, completepatient drug record.
- Compounds pharmaceuticalsincluding non-sterile and sterile products, chemotherapy andparenteral nutrition products accurately.
- Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintainsrecords as required by law and institutionalpolicies.
- Provides services efficiently and ina timely fashion.
- Verifies the daily activities of thedepartment are complete and recorded.
- Maintains competency required for current jobtitle / position
- Maintains current technicianlicense. Ensures applicable CE records and licensure are maintainedin department files. Attends staff meetings.
- Maintain IV certification and competencies.
- Completes all competency / skills assessmentrequirements.
- Specialty area
- Serves as the technician in specialty areassuch as the operating room, IV room, or pharmacy work areas outsidethe central pharmacy.
- Ambulatory care
- Providesambulatory pharmaceutical care services as assigned such as but notlimited to : anticoagulation clinics, intensive medical home,transition of care, Discharge Medication reconciliation,etc.
- Retail
- Performs outpatient distributive functionsrelated to entering prescriptions orders, selecting the correctmedications for new and refilled prescription orders, andcoordinates delivery of medications for patient pick-up ordelivery.
Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective drugtherapies for patients according to established policies,procedures, and protocols.
- Reads, extracts andinterprets information in patient medical recordsaccurately.
- Detects and reports suspectedadverse drug reactions accurately and in a timelymanner.
- Sustains the hospital drug formulary,minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeuticsubstitution protocols and promoting rational drug therapyselection.
- Provides accurate, adequate andtimely drug information to the hospital’s pharmacyassociates.
- Coordinates pharmacist drugeducation to patients and their families per institutionalprotocol.
- Participates in the qualityimprovement and medication use review activities of the department.Collects data, conducts monitors and inspections and maintainslogs, records and other documentation asassigned.
- Conducts designated interventions asdefined in department Clinical Intervention activities (IV to PO,Renal Dosing, Pharmacokinetic dosing support, Anticoagulation)
- Baseline departmental standards for reportinginterventions for clinical productivity as defined by departmentalgoals.
- Provides servicesefficiently and in a timely fashion

- Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxicsubstances (including chemotherapeutic, cytotoxic drugs andcleaning solutions), sticks or cuts by needles and other sharpitems.

- Potential for musculoskeletalinjuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used.Potential exposure to biologic material when participating indirect patient care activities (e.
g. patient education, codeattendance).

Education / Skills
High School Diploma or equivalentrequired.
Experience
- 3-5 years of pharmacy technician experiencepreferred.
- Meet all criteria of PharmacyTechnician I.
Licenses, Registrations, orCertifications
- Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of practice required.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred.
- ACPE accredited IV certification program,including hazardous (minimum 40 hours); or meet minimum Staterequirement. Not applicable to Ambulatory Care settings or Retailsettings.
