Duties

The SSC Coordinator performs a variety of functions directly relating to the operation of the National Airspace Systems (NAS).

Performs complex assignments with a high degree of independence from supervision. Primary focus is on the availability and reliability of the services and products provided to users of the NAS.

Is a principal specialist or team leader for major projects and / or program areas. Resolves unique technical problems without managerial intervention, providing coordination and suggesting solutions.

Carries out work in accordance with overall plans and objectives of the organization, resolving problems as they arise and making adjustments as necessary to deal with unanticipated situations and organizational needs.

Provides training, mentoring, guidance and advice to employees, contractors, and other organizations as needed. Can be called upon to assist with repair and / or restore services and systems, providing guidance on the availability of back-up systems, and to upward report the status of critical events.

Established policies and procedures furnish guidance for most assignments, but considerable discretion is allowed to select the most appropriate approach or to develop new solutions.

Focuses on overall NAS systems performance and causes of System degradation. Collaborates with system users, planners, engineers, and contractor personnel for acceptance of new or modified systems and provide assistance for resolving problems with the installation or improvements.

Position requires emphasis on customer service and organizational skills. Responsibilities include risk management for system and infrastructure projects by identifying and mitigating potential hazards to the NAS.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position candidates must show experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility that demonstrates an extensive knowledge of and experience in technology system interrelationships, and management of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation and electronics systems.

Generally, experience at the next lower level, pay band H / Level III or equivalent, meets the minimum qualifications for this position as long as the experience supports the demonstrated abilities.

Eligible applicants meeting the minimum qualification requirements and selective factor(s), if applicable, may be further evaluated on the Demonstrated Abilities, listed in the announcement.

Based on this evaluation, applicants will be placed in one of the following categories : score order, category grouping, or alphabetical and referred to the selecting official for consideration.

Persons occupying a testing designated position (TDP) will be subject to random drug and / or alcohol testing.

This is a temporary position not-to-exceed 2 year; it may be terminated sooner, extended or made permanent without further competition.

Upon completion of temporary assignment, the selected employee shall return to his / her original permanent position or an equivalent position in the same commuting area.
