Summary
The Central Service Technician 2 provides on-site support for the reprocessing of surgical instruments and trays to JHS facilities in compliance with the Department of Health, TJC and AORN standards and JHS goals and policies.
Responsibilities
Operates all mechanical machinery; cart washers, instrument washers, steam sterilizers, low temp sterilizers, ultrasonic and drying cabinets, within sterile processing.
Uses established policies and procedures to complete work assignments.
- Able to performs in all areas of sterile processing including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes within all set professional standards and regulations.
- Able to perform assembly on basic instrument trays.
- Reports broken instrumentation.
- Supports and adheres to JHS policies and procedures.
- Supervises and trains new personnel.
- Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
- Other duties as assigned
Experience
Generally requires 1 to 3 years of experience in sterile processing.
Education
High School diploma is required; Bachelor's degree in related field is strongly preferred.
Skill
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
Credentials
- Valid Sterile Processing Technician Certification by CBSPD or IAHCSMM is required. Incumbents hired before November 20, 2019 must complete obtain the required certification by December 31, 2021.
