Position Summary :
The School of Public Administration (SPA) at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenured Associate Professor of Public Policy.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, academic-year (9-month) faculty position based in Boca Raton, Florida, that will begin in August 2025.
The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in public policy process theory with the area of policy specialization being open.
The review of applications will begin on October 18, 2024.
We welcome applications from established policy scholars with expertise in public policy process theories and applications, demonstrated by an active track record of publications in high-impact policy journals.
The successful candidate should have evidence of an intellectually rigorous research agenda, seek grant opportunities, and engage fully in university service activities.
Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses in public policy and public administration, policy process theories, regulation, and policy implementation.
The successful appointee will also contribute to the mission of the PhD program by serving as an active member of the Public Policy track contributing to comprehensive exams, serving on dissertation committees, and teaching advanced policy courses.
Additionally, the candidate may serve as a Masters’ Program Coordinator of the MPA and MNM programs either upon hire or by the following calendar year.
Summary of Responsibilities :
- Responsible to the Director of the School of Public Administration
- Teach courses in policy process, implementation, and evaluation
- Actively participate on dissertation committees, contributing to comprehensive exams, and teaching advanced courses in public policy
- Coordinate the master’s programs (MPA and MNM), serving as the primary academic advisor
- Conduct high-quality research in the context of public policy
Minimum Qualifications :
- A PhD in Public Policy, Public Affairs, Public Administration, or a directly related field such as Political Science.
- An emphasis on public policy in general and public policy process theory.
- Demonstrated evidence of excellence in scholarship and undergraduate and graduate teaching is essential.
- A record of service to their university, profession, and / or community and demonstrates the potential leadership roles in the college, university, and community.
- Superior communication skills and the ability to teach across multiple degree programs (in-person and online modalities).
- Experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
- Evidence of contributions to excellence of student learning experience through research, teaching, and / or public engagement.
- A record of or the potential to obtain external research support.
- Demonstrated engagement with local, state, and national public service organizations in related areas of expertise.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience as an academic program coordinator or in a similar academic or service role.
