  • Patient Population : Children & adolescents with depression, anxiety, ADD / ADHD, adjustment disorders, acute psychosis, bipolar disorder
  • Support Staff : Mental health technicians & student nurse techs
  • Floating Requirements : Float to acute behavioral areas (geriatric / adult) first; may support task assignments in MedSurg if not needed
  • Scrub Color / Dress Code : Navy blue
  • Orientation : 2–4 weeks depending on experience

    • Important Notes

  • RN’s must complete a pass / fail exam during orientation (open book, based on training material). A score of 90% or higher required to pass; failure will result in termination.
  • Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to comply will result in termination.
  • Team-based care model includes psychiatrist, RN, care manager, mental health techs, student nurse techs, recreational therapist, program therapist, chaplain, and dietary staff.
  • Nurses should demonstrate compassion for child / adolescent mental health, strong communication and teaching skills, developmental knowledge, crisis de-escalation skills, and ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds (including state wards, refugees, Hispanic, African American, etc.).
