Construction Inspector

The Construction Materials Technician is responsible for performing daily onsite field inspections of construction work and preparing detailed daily work reports. The role requires interpreting construction drawings and specifications, determining necessary changes to construction contracts based on encountered field conditions, and ensuring thorough communication with the project team throughout the construction process.

Responsibilities :

  • Perform daily onsite field inspections of construction work.
  • Prepare daily work reports documenting construction activities.
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Assess field conditions and determine if changes to the construction contract are required.
  • Track and record daily quantities for contractor payment and materials management.
  • Coordinate daily activities with the contractor on the construction project.
  • Conduct a wide variety of materials testing, including concrete, aggregates, and density testing in the field.
  • Track and record as-built information for incorporation into project record drawings.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the project team throughout the process.

Essential Skills :

  • Experience in construction, inspection, and concrete work.
  • Proficiency in construction inspection, specifically in TDOT and DOT standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications :

  • One to two years of experience as a Construction Services Trainee or qualified internship program, or two years of progressively responsible experience in construction inspection.
  • A valid Driver's License.
  • Safety Training, including Work Zone Safety, 10 Hour OSHA Training, and Confined Space Entrant Training preferred.
  • NECEPT Field Technician Certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Work Environment :

    The work environment involves regular fieldwork on construction sites, requiring safety adherence and coordination with construction teams. Regular testing and inspection activities take place in outdoor settings. The position may require wearing appropriate personal protective equipment as dictated by site conditions.

    Job Type & Location :

    This is a Permanent position based out of Memphis, Tennessee.

    Pay and Benefits :

    The pay range for this position is $45000.00 - $72000.00 / yr.
