Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) Design Build Flight Test Instrumentation is seeking an entry to early career level Mechanical Design Engineer to support multiple platforms for Flight Test to join our team.

In this team, a design engineer has the primary responsibility for the synthesis of requirements, creation of engineering definition, 3D models, 2D drawings, and model based definition that define the mechanical hardware required to install a flight test data system.
Flight test hardware is frequently located throughout the aircraft giving an employee a chance to get familiar with different areas of the platform.
Design Build designers work the entire design cycle including support of requirement definition, layouts, coordination with electrical designers, preliminary design review, engineering release, coordination with manufacturing engineers and suppliers, occasional shipside support, and change incorporation.
This position supports tactical aircraft programs in Saint Louis as well as Design Build teams at other sites. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including;
Entry-Level, Associate, and Experienced Level Engineers.
Position Responsibilities :
- Development of mechanical design criteria from customer test objectives / specifications
- Layout mechanical installations in flight test articles & subassemblies
- Locate test hardware such as sensors, wire provisions, equipment, and recorders
- Design and documentation of mechanical systems, components, supports, and interfaces
- Support flight test instrumentation and data acquisition
- Mechanical hardware support during hardware inspection, installation, and test execution
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
An interim and / or final U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience) :
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
- Experience with 3D Design software, such as Unigraphics NX, SolidWorks and / or CATIA
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience) :
- 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1+ years of experience in mechanical system design
- 1+ years of experience with a mechanical design tool
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Experience in mechanical or aircraft system design
- Experience with instrumentation hardware used in test such as strain gages, accelerometers, thermocouples, or fluid flow sensors
- Experience with fabrication methods such as CNC machining, sheet metal forming, and assembly with aerospace fasteners
- Experience in prototyping or rapid product development
- Experience with PDM software such as Teamcenter or Enovia
- Proficiency in Unigraphics NX
Typical Education / Experience :
Mid-Level (Level 3) Education / experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.
g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.
g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
