The Opportunity
Our Diagnostics business currently has an opportunity for a Principal Electrical Engineer for our Santa Clara, CA or Irving, TX location.
The Principal Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the development of analog and digital electronic sub-systems in new products and for on market product improvements and issue resolution.
Leads technical teams comprised of internal and external resources. Reports to the R&D Director of Hardware Engineering.
What You’ll Work On
- Develops, designs, and evaluates electronics schematics, layout, assemblies and processes.
- Develops new concepts and associated electrical designs from initial design to product launch.
- Design and troubleshoot electronics interfaces to other sub-systems, including mechanical, fluidic, and optics.
- Design / review circuits and systems for robustness against EMI and ESD.
- Develops high quality documentation for Hardware Design Descriptions, requirements, test plans, and test reports.
- Conducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality.
- Executes Verification and Validation tests.
- Stays up to date and understands relevant regulatory standards, such as EN / IEC 60601.
- Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
- Directs support staff and coordinates project activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 6-years (10+ desired) of relevant, progressive work experience, advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of hardware design and development experience, including at least 3-years direct experience in developing regulated medical devices under design control.
- Expertise in cost-effective high-reliability electronics design
- Expertise in bringing analog circuit designs from concept to production.
- Expertise in designing signal processing boards with associated embedded controller solutions (ARM processor experience desired).
- Expertise in designing signal processing with FPGA / ARM programming.
- Ability to innovate with a history of successful product releases.
- Experience with simulation tools (e.g. circuit simulation, layout simulation, or mathematical modeling).
- Knowledge of electrical and optoelectronics principles, practices, and procedures.
- Engineering experience in medical device products with optoelectronics and / or IVD.
- Proven track record of bringing designs from concept to volume production, including drawing generation, rapid prototyping, laboratory set-ups of prototypes, and / or verification testing on optoelectronics subsystems.
- Familiarity with systems engineering principles.
- Experience as a technical subject matter expert in resolving on market product issues.
- Experience working with external manufacturers to design, launch and improve vendor subsystems used in production.

- Expert in analog electronics circuit design, such as low-noise, high-speed detector readout electronics and laser control electronics.
Deep knowledge of photo detector technology.
- Expert in high-speed low noise Analog to Digital Converter designs
- Expert in low noise stable DC-DC converter designs (low and high voltage applications)
- Proficient with embedded systems (e.g. Xilinx, ARM) and the associated hardware and firmware development. Proven experience with hardware programming languages like VHDL or Verilog, in the Xilinx Vivado design suite.
- Proficient with Engineering design, control, and analysis tools, such as Cadence Allegro, OrCAD, PADS, Spice, Team Center, SBM, SAP, ANSYS, MATLAB, COSMOS etc.
- Proficient in technical management of suppliers. Excellent collaboration with internal and external suppliers and customers.
- Proficiency in technical project management developing, documenting, and executing work streams in support of multiple concurrent projects.
- Proficient in communicating complex technical situations in an understandable way across functions and disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of statistical methods, FMEA / FMECA and Design Verification.
- Design and troubleshoot noise sensitive analog amplifier boards and associated digital conversion.
- Understands error budgets at both the electronics and system level.
- Focuses on what’s best for the customer.
- Places a high emphasis on quality and compliance.
- Willing to take on challenges and has a can-do attitude towards overcoming those challenges.

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
