Chief Financial Officer
We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the Firm's financial operations and provide strategic leadership to drive growth and financial performance at the Firm.
The CFO is responsible for the Firm’s financial planning and analysis, budgeting, pricing, accounting, forecasting, cash management, taxes, billing and collections functions and finance-related strategic initiatives.
The CFO will work closely with the Managing Partner, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Executive Committee, practice group leaders and administrative management team to advance the financial goals of the Firm with an eye toward increasing efficiency, cost savings and overall profitability.
This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is based in Los Angeles.
The salary range for the position of Chief Financial Officer at Nossaman is $265,000 to $305,000 annually. The successful candidate’s salary for this position is reasonably expected to be set within this range.
However, actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including billing, collections, accounts payable, cash applications, taxes, financial reporting and analysis and budgeting.
- Advise on financial issues such as capital structure, partner compensation, Firm mergers and lateral attorney acquisitions and provide input into the strategic direction of the Firm.
- Lead the annual budget process, working closely with practice group leaders, committee chairs, general counsel and the administrative management team to align financial resources with Firm priorities.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance against budget and forecast, providing timely and accurate financial reports to the COO and other key stakeholders.
- Develop financial analyses and benchmarks relating to client, matter and practice group profitability, lateral acquisitions and mergers, new client intake, alternative fee arrangements and other metrics.
- Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls, monitor cash flow and cash management and identify and implement cost control initiatives.
- Evaluate, upgrade and manage the Firm’s financial systems to facilitate timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain relationships with financial institutions, CPAs and other external parties.
- Develop, document, communicate and enforce policies and procedures relating to all financial functions and Firm expense guidelines.
- Lead a department of 15 professionals, including a senior staff that includes a Controller, Billing and Collections Director and Business Analytics and Pricing Director.
- Participate on various Firm committees, including the Executive Committee, Finance Committee and Retirement Plan Management Committee.
Experience and Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field is required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles within the legal industry or other professional services environment.
- Strong command of financial planning and analysis, financial reporting and accounting principles.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute financial strategies to drive growth and profitability.
- Demonstrated understanding of law firm billing / accounting system software, such as Aderant or Elite.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and make strategic recommendations.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams and effectively communicate financial results.
- Ability to bring and manage meaningful change and participate in process improvement and project management initiatives.
- Comfortable and skillful with a hands-on approach in situations where tasks and analyses cannot be delegated.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
