Corporate Buyer

Corporate Buyers are responsible for the procurement of construction materials, equipment, and / or services in support of international projects and corporate objectives. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of solid procuring materials experience. Experience in construction is a plus. Candidates must have solid and proven buying experience along with strong negotiation experience. Work hours are 8-5 pm (or agreed upon time with Manager) - work from home on Fridays. Salary up to $110K per year (based on proven track record and experience).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Handle complex buyout packages that require buyer to review specifications for sourcing of materials and / or services.
  • Prepare Request for Quotations / Invitations to Bid (RFQs / ITBs) packages based on commodity assignment (that include spec / drawings).
  • Obtain solicitations / bids from sources of supply and / or new sources.
  • Ensure if it's a new source of supply that buyer is vetting the new source in parallel with buyout package.
  • Follow-up on RFQ packets and / or all bidders so as to ensure bids are received in a timely fashion (per required timeline).
  • Maintain constant communication with all stakeholders on buyout packages.
  • Receive and review bid packages with VP of Procurement and / or stakeholders.
  • Communicate with all bidders and ensure a best and final offer (bafo) is always requested.
  • Negotiate best terms and conditions, i.e. submittal / fabrication / material lead times, payment terms, etc.
  • Be the liaison between bidders and our project site team so as to ensure bidders' technical questions are answered in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure all technical questions / answers are shared with all bidders so as to ensure all bidders have equal access to said information.
  • Communicate with work package manager (wpm) and all stakeholders so as to ensure accurate materials are procured per bill of material (bom) / specifications / requirements.
  • Work closely with wpm to ensure best possible source of supply is chosen, i.e. not only on price, but also on lead time / availability and proven vendor customer service record.
  • Make vendor recommendations to wpm all while ensuring he / she has reviewed the buyout from a technical perspective.
  • Procure materials that are agreed upon with wpm and the project team.
  • Generate purchase orders in Purchase Order system (ViewPoint) and log purchase orders into Material Tracking Report.
  • Attend daily procurement / logistics meetings and other meetings (as requested).
  • Perform daily quality control (QC) checks on purchase orders and / or reports for other team members (as needed).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Education and Skills

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in related field is a must (business administration preferred).
  • Must have a minimum of 7-10 years of solid procurement experience as a buyer preferably in the construction industry.
  • Must have excellent understanding of procurement techniques / requirements.
  • Must have excellent ability to learn and follow procurement / logistics policies and procedures.
  • Must have above-average / strong negotiation skills.
  • Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Must have strong analytical skills.
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented and highly motivated.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially in Excel.
  • Must have impeccable customer service skills. In our area of business, we treat everyone as a customer.
  • Must be able to evaluate and use relevant information along with individual judgment to suggest ways to improve work processes (Process Improvement).
  • Must always avoid conflicts of interest, all while maintaining confidentiality of bid submissions and providing equal access to bidding information.
