At Houston Methodist theRegistered Nurse (RN) PRN position is a licensed staff nurse anexperienced clinician functions at the Competent to Proficientstage of Benners model of clinical practice.

The RN PRN positionprovides professional nursing care to a diverse patient populationconducts nursing assessments assists with exams and treatmentpatient education and maintenance of medical records.

The RN PRNposition provides direct patient care effectively and efficientlywhich may include patients with varied and complex needs.

Thisposition communicates and collaborates with the physicians andinterprofessional health care team to facilitate coordinate andmaintain compassionate efficient quality care and achievement ofdesired treatment outcomes.

The RN PRN position demonstratesclinical competence when providing care using technologyadministering medications performing procedures and managingemergencies acting as a patient and family advocate in order tomonitor and maintain patient rights.

This position assumesleadership roles with progressive responsibility including but notlimited to participating in or leading unit and shared governanceinitiatives serving as charge nurse or preceptor to students or newemployees and possibly contributing to service line or hospitalwideinitiatives in partnership with management.

SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Follows thepatient and familycentered care standards as outlined in theHouston Methodist Professional Nursing Practice document.

Conductsnursing assessments assists with exams and treatment andmaintenance of medical records. Practices in a manner that iscongruent with cultural diversity and inclusionprinciples.

Developsupdates and communicates plan of care including discharge inpartnership with the patient family and interprofessional healthcare team using the nursing process.

Prioritizes care based on thepatients needs abilities and preferences. Advocates onpatient / familys behalf to identify and resolve clinical and ethicalconcerns utilizing appropriateresources.

Providespatient teaching based on learning needs uses appropriate resourcesincorporating planning for care after discharge.

Consistentlyevaluates the patients comprehension and adapts teaching methodsaccordingly.

Helps driveimprovement of department score for patient satisfaction onunitbased scorecard through peertopeer accountability to servicestandards.

Improves qualityand safety scores on the unitbased scorecard through peertopeeraccountability reporting near misses and collaborating with theinterprofessional health careteam.

Provides input into the unit resource utilization includingunit capital and operational budgetneeds.

Identifiesand presents areas for innovation efficiency and improvement inpatient care or unit operations using evidencebased practiceliterature.

Offers innovative solutions through evidencebasedpractice / performance improvement projects and shared governanceactivities.

Champions newcare pathways or service line implementation to improve service tothe community. Identifies trends for improvement opportunities orpractice changes and supports initiatives.

Researches the changeand presents options to shared governance andleadership.

EDUCATION

Bachelorof Science degree or higher from an accredited School ofNursing

WORKEXPERIENCE

Two years ofregistered nurse experience in a healthcareenvironment

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSREQUIRED

  • RN RegisteredNurse Texas State Licensure and / or Compact State Licensure within60 days OR
  • RNTempRegistered Nurse Temporary State Licensure within 60 days AND
  • BLS Basic LifeSupport (AHA) AND
  • Othercredentials and certifications as defined by unit / serviceline

LICENSESAND CERTIFICATIONSPREFERRED
