Total Safety is looking for a Tech I - Safety to add to their safety conscious team. The Tech I - Safety provides EH&S support to operational areas within industrial / commercial facilities and pipeline locations.

Essential Job Functions
- Allocate approximately 90% of his / her time performing observations / safety audits and permit writing in the field.
- Perform periodic audits of Critical Behaviors (Behavior Observations), Operating Disciplines (OD Audits), safe work permits, lock-out tag-out, safety task analysis cards, and other tasks required by the scope of the assignment.
- Perform periodic audits of work activities to verify work is being performed safely and within the scope of applicable SWP, LOTO, STAC, etc. documents.
- Perform daily housekeeping audits for identification / correction of hazards
- Coordinate with client HSE representatives to complete any required tasks promptly
- Immediately communicate any significant EH&S issues to the responsible client representative and Total Safety Management as required.
- Provide support to shift / field supervisors on all safety-related issues
- Coach Operation / Contractor personnel on hazard awareness / recognition
- Attend / conduct regularly scheduled HSE Team meetings and safety meetings e.g., net meetings, tailgate meetings, shift change meetings

Qualifications
Educational and experience requirements include combinations of technical training and / or industrial-related safety and health experience.
OSHA 10 is required, and OSHA 30 or higher-level credentials are preferred. A minimum of 1 year of experience as a field safety technician is required.
Safety Technicians must thoroughly understand all federal, state, local, company, and client regulations. The ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures is essential.
Good interpersonal and communication skills are required. Computer literacy must be sufficient to communicate effectively through emails, prepare written reports and summarize observations, prepare incident reports and statements, basic spreadsheets, and time and expense reporting.
COMMENTS : The position is typically utilized on large project sites; however, it may assume total responsibility for safety and health on smaller projects.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel;
reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
DESCRIPTION : This position requires great stamina to perform the above essential job functions under considerable pressure and within timetables.
It also requires working long hours occasionally as business necessitates.
Employees must climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, and elevated platforms. The scope may require climbing access ladders on plant equipment to various heights.
At times, the employee will be required to enter multiple types of process equipment where work is being performed. Work will occur on hard and uneven surfaces such as gravel, asphalt, and cement.
Where excavations are present, soil conditions will be slippery and change as work progresses throughout the project. Work will occur in all weather conditions in an outdoor environment.
Some projects require work at night.
The employee will be required to perform the scope of the assignment while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, flame retardant clothing, chemical suits, respirators, breathing air equipment, rescue harnesses, safety harnesses with lanyards, hardhats, and other equipment required for personal safety.
FINE MOTOR COORDINATION : Excellent in the nature of skill.
RANGE OF MOTION : Full range of motion required
BALANCE : Excellent balance, having to climb / walk as long as fall restraint protection is provided.
VISION : Employees must have normal visual acuity, depth perception, and color discrimination for hazardous materials areas when visiting job sites and / or performing accident investigations.
When approved, corrective lenses must be suitable for industrial / chemical and refining facilities, be ANSI-approved safety eyewear, and be approved under the Client safety requirements.
HEARING : Sufficient hearing to hear warning signals and co-workers warning of high risks of objects falling and plant warning signs.
Work Environment
The employee will be able to work at various heights and will be exposed to heat, cold, dust, fumes, or gases and to changes in weather.
Fitness for Duty
As a condition of employment, all employees must pass a drug and alcohol (controlled substances) test, a comprehensive background check, and a driving record check.
