Position Overview :

The CDL A Internal Driver - 2nd Shift plays a vital role in daily operations by safely and efficiently moving trailers, containers, and equipment within the yard and between company facilities. The Internal Driver ensures trailers are properly positioned for loading and unloading, conducts equipment checks, and supports the logistics team in maintaining a smooth and organized flow of materials.

This individual reports to the Transportation Manager and works closely with Dispatchers , Drivers , and Yard Operations to maintain safety, accuracy, and productivity.

Summary of Responsibilities :

  • Move and spot trailers, roll-offs, and containers within the yard to designated locations for loading, unloading, and staging.
  • Ensure trailers are positioned safely and correctly at docks, scales, and storage areas.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections on trucks, trailers, and yard equipment; report any mechanical or safety issues immediately.
  • Collaborate closely with dispatchers and yard personnel to coordinate equipment movements and maintain operational flow.
  • Weigh and document all inbound and outbound materials entering or leaving the facility.
  • Maintain clean and organized yard conditions, ensuring safety zones and travel paths remain clear.
  • Follow all company safety protocols, DOT regulations, and site-specific policies for vehicle movement and material handling.
  • Assist drivers with trailer hookups, equipment checks, and proper load securement as needed.
  • Complete all required paperwork and digital logs accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the transportation and yard operations teams

Physical and Environmental Requirements :

  • Must be able to routinely lift and move up to 50 lbs. (team lift for heavier items).
  • Must be able to climb onto trailers and containers and safely enter / exit trucks multiple times per shift.
  • Work outdoors year-round, exposed to weather, dust, noise, and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and remain alert and focused during extended shifts.
  • Desired Characteristics :

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a transportation, warehouse, or yard environment.
  • Valid Class A CDL.
  • Must be able to work 2nd shift 4 PM to 2 AM Monday - Friday.
  • Experience in the recycling, manufacturing, or logistics industry a plus.
  • Strong understanding of safe vehicle operation and yard safety procedures.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to safety and teamwork.
  • Effective communication skills with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Proven dependability, consistent attendance, and positive work ethic.
