Freedom Preparatory Academy Charter Schools (www.freedomprep.org) is a K-12 charter school in Memphis, TN. Our mission is to prepare all students in grades K-12 to excel in college and in life.

Freedom Preparatory Academy opened in August of 2009 with a class of 96 6th graders. We now serve over 2,100 students in grades PreK-12.

Our students have exceeded local and state averages in math and local averages in English language arts on the state exam.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Human Resources will lead the human resources strategy across the national charter network. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, they will serve as a valued thought leader on all issues related to human capital for the executive team and school leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibility :

Work with the senior leadership team on key organizational, management and people strategies, and issues

Employee Relations, Benefits and Payroll

  • Manage the the HRBP and HR Coordinator; ensure timely and effective administration of all employee benefits and recommend improvements to benefits packages
  • Create and manage open enrollment process for TN and AL employees
  • Play a proactive role in resolving employee concerns, investigating employee issues, and developing positive employee relations and engagementUpdate employee handbook for TN and AL to ensure FPA is in compliance biannually
  • Oversee the payroll function and look for ways to improve efficiency and reporting through Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Develop and manage systems to gather feedback on employee satisfaction and engagement; based on the results, share feedback with senior leaders and modify retention strategiesCreate and implement HR trainings across all FPA departments
  • Monitor Teacher Permits / Licensure Compliance & Reporting quarterlyCreate and monitor teacher evaluations in TN Compass

Organizational Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Chief People Officer to align human capital strategy with growth targets
  • Facilitate professional development activities for staff across the organization
  • Play a key role in leading organizational culture initiatives that ensure a high-performing organization overall
  • Develop systems and processes that value and leverage skill and expertise across the organization to drive excellence in education, engagement, and retention

Performance Management and Compensation

  • Work with the talent team and hiring managers, through the offer letter process, making sure that compensation aligns with the candidate's relevant work experience
  • Work with managers throughout the organization to help develop systems for goal setting and performance evaluation and ensure evaluations take place regularly and effectively

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 6 years professional experience in Human Resources with strong Employee Relations experience

Management / leadership experience required

  • A track record of leadership, including the ability to encourage, motivate, manage conflict, team build, mentor, coach, set goals, prioritize and plan
  • Ability to travel to multiple campus locationsSPHR or PHR certification strongly preferred

  • Alignment with the Freedom Prep mission and a desire to transform the lives of underserved children in Memphis and Alabama
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders and effectively communicate tough messages to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to hire, develop, engage, and retain high-performing teams
  • Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to develop long-term plans and execute against goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced, rapidly growing entrepreneurial organization
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects

$85,250 - $95,000 a year
