Scheduled Work Hours / Shift : (3) 12 hour rotating shifts per week, 7 : 00a-7 : 00p, 7 : 00p-7 : 00a, including some weekends & holidays

Fair Labor Standards Act Status : Hourly

Job Summary / Purpose : Pediatric Cardiology Intensive Care unit is a 14 bed Beacon Award-Winning unit and is the referral center for all major pediatric cardiac surgery in South Carolina.

Average Daily Census on the unit is 12, with a blend of cardiac surgical and medical diagnoses. The PCICU cares for patients with congenital heart disease of any age based on care needs.

Common procedures associated with this unit's care include cardiac surgery, Ventricular Assist Devices, Heart Transplant, cardiac catheterization, and all medical diagnoses associated with cardiac care for the children in South Carolina.

In addition to ventilatory and cardiac support, the unit provides ECMO / CRRT and additional complex supportive therapies .

Pediatric palliative care is available as needed The staffing mix includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Unit Secretaries with ancillary supportive services such as Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacist available as needed.

All PCICU beds are monitored beds.

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process;

delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.

Minimum Training and Education : Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

A minimum of one year of pediatric critical care, peds cardiac or adult critical care work experience as a registered nurse strongly preferred.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations : Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR / AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Additional Job Description
