The School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) at the University of Colorado Denver announces a tenure-track faculty position in the COAMFTE Accredited Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) Program beginning in the fall of 2025.

The CFT program prepares relational therapists who value inclusion and prize diversity such that they are prepared to offer a continuum of mental health services across a variety of settings for the benefit of the community and society.

Assistant Professor (tenure track)

What you will do :

  • Teach graduate courses in the CFT program. The standard teaching load is 4 classes per year (2 / 2), including courses in the core content areas, skills classes and clinical supervision of CFT students.
  • Infuse culturally inclusive curriculum and social justice content into all courses.
  • Develop and carry out a rigorous research agenda. Engage actively with other faculty in the development and elaboration of the School's research themes such as equity, urban populations, and cultural diversity.
  • Support the ongoing development of the master's degree in CFT program through program evaluation, using and developing competency-based assessments aligned with COAMFTE, course development and revision, and activities related to accreditation.
  • Provide live and / or virtual clinical supervision within practicum and internship courses as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor Candidate.
  • Provide service through committee work and other projects to the CFT program, SEHD, and University and on the state and / or national level
  • Support the development and maintenance of partnerships within the greater Denver area community.

This position involves working closely with students where the person may become aware of campus safety issues that may need to be reported as part of CU's commitment to compliance with the Clery Act.

The person in this role will receive the related training and be required to submit data once per year to the campus Clery Act team.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • A doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy or Human Development and Family Science (with focus on MFT) from a COAMFTE accredited program.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Colorado (if license eligible, Colorado licensure must be completed within one year of start date)
  • AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor Candidate or eligibility to apply for Supervisor Candidate.
  • Demonstrated success or potential for success in teaching and mentoring graduate students.
  • Demonstrated success or potential for success in research, teaching, and supervision in CFT, particularly in areas including or related to underserved, diverse communities.
  • Commitment to the professional field of Marriage and Family Therapy as evidenced by involvement in professional organizations.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Demonstrated success or potential for success in grant writing and grant management.
  • Evidence of cultural responsiveness and inclusion in prior experiences as practitioner, instructor, and researcher.
  • Experience related to at least one of following : Medical Family Therapy, Substance abuse and addictions treatments, Complex trauma, Socioculturally attuned family systems therapies.
  • Experience in providing clinical services and supervision in Spanish and English.
  • Experience working with graduate students in instruction, supervision, and mentoring activities.
  • History of collaborative research and / or grant funded projects
  • Experience in COAMFTE accreditation review process for CFT programs.

Conditions of Employment

  • Occasional work during the evening and / or weekends may be required.
  • This position requires an onsite presence on campus 5 days a week.

This is a full-time 9-month academic year position. Opportunity for summer teaching is available.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $78,000 to $84,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
