From sandy beaches and salt marshes to freshwater swamps and farmland, the Coastal Conservation League is working to respond to rapid growth and development, as well as impacts from a changing climate on the South Carolina coastal plain.
We work from our headquarters in Charleston, our legislative office in Columbia, our South Coast office in Beaufort, which covers Beaufort, Jasper, Colleton, and Hampton counties, our North Coast office, which works across Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Williamsburg, and Florence counties, and our food hub, GrowFood Carolina, in Charleston.
Our team of professionals works across the coastal plain to promote clean energy, protect land, water and wildlife, build strong cities and towns, and support local food and farmers to build healthy, resilient communities.

Summary :
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Energy & Climate Project Manager will work on an array of projects related to energy and climate issues and regularly monitor agendas, media, public notices, and Public Service Commission filings to stay abreast of issues impacting the community.
The Energy & Climate Project Manager will work with the Program Director and multiple partners to present findings and recommendations to stakeholders and decision makers in support of organizational goals.
Essential Functions :
- Maintain current knowledge of national, regional, and state energy policy, regulation, and market developments.
- Contribute to local and state-level climate action planning, while leveraging a strong understanding of climate-change impacts and strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
- Closely track regulatory proceedings and research and analyze issues that arise in electric utility resource planning, ratemaking, energy efficiency, renewable energy, distributed generation, and energy equity.
- Assess near- and long-term clean energy potential and strategies in SC.
- Identify regulatory barriers to deployment of clean energy in SC electric sector.
- Check the Public Service Commission docket search on a daily basis to identify proceedings of strategic importance and track new developments.
- Conduct technical research and analysis to inform formal testimony in utility regulatory proceedings.
- Draft, review, and edit comment letters, testimony, and exhibits for filing in regulatory proceedings.
- Organize and / or participate in meetings with utilities, regulatory staff, other government staff, business leaders, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and media relating to utility policy and regulation.
- Provide technical and strategic input to support Conservation League legislative efforts relating to energy and climate policy.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Responsible for managing ongoing program-specific projects.
- Responsible for managing project coordinator(s) and interns and / or externs within department.

- Very proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel

Required Education and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated passion for environmental advocacy
- Familiarity with energy and climate policy and the inequitable impacts of climate change and energy cost burdens
Preferred Education and Experience :
- Master’s degree in a related field with at least 1-2 years of work or experiential intern / extern coursework
- Experience with environmental education / interpretation and / or knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations
- Experience working with electric vehicle policy, beneficial electrification, and local government energy policy.
- Deep knowledge of equity issues and experience leading grassroots advocacy campaigns
- Familiarity with GIS, Python, R, and other analytical tools
- Experience working in Agile project environments and comfort using project management applications, such as Asana
- Deep understanding of the electric-utility sector
