The Department of Journalism at Loyola Marymount University seeks an assistant or associate professor to fill a tenure-track position in Journalism to begin in Fall 2025.

An advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Journalism, Media Studies or a closely related field is required. The ideal candidate has a record of scholarly publication and / or authorship of film / video / audio / digital projects in addition to experience in and critical knowledge of the technology and content of

multiple media. Experience with or interest in digital pedagogies or integrating technology in

teaching in ways that enhance student learning would be considered an asset. Expertise in covering communities traditionally underserved by media in general, and a concern for ethical issues that confront journalists in the digital era are expected.

The teaching load is two or three 4-unit courses per semester (a cycle of 2-2-2-3 over two years), including Core and Journalism courses in reporting, writing, digital media production, ethics and / or history of the genre.

LMU values the teacher-scholar-practitioner educator model and offers a pre-tenure sabbatical and opportunities to apply for research funding and to hire undergraduate research assistants.
