The Computed Tomography Technologist performs computerized tomographic scans according to established standards. Provides basic patient care, explains standard procedures and answers patient questions, maintains equipment, transports patients and prepares and maintains documentation.
This position's work location is on-site only.
Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Obtains patient history.
- Educates patients / families regarding procedures and / or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention.
- Positions patients appropriately for the applicable radiographic procedure.
- Performs radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines.
- Develops and evaluates radiographic results for technical quality, such as density, contrast, definition and distortion.
- Applies learned methodologies with independent judgment according to established policies and procedures.
- Performs prescribed procedures in accordance with established policies Maintains infection prevention standards.
- Maintains infection prevention standards.
- Explains standard procedures and answers patients questions.
- Prepares, cleans, adjusts, inspects and maintains equipment.
- Produces quality images and prepares / presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
- Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed or required.
- Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals.
Modality Specific
- Operate head or body scanners to create a computer generated cross-sectional image of patient's internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues.
- Produces computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of specific areas.
- Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
- May perform obstetric and gynecological scans, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, and radiation therapy localization.
Quality
- Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, demonstrating ability to troubleshoot and notifying appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
- Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department and monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of service.
- Document any incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care and provide that information to the interpreting physician.
- Exercise responsibility for the maintenance and accuracy of facility reports, database records and logs.
- Ensure that the examination results meet the facility standard for Quality Assurance before findings are released for interpretation.
- Provide oversight for the assessment of examinations performed within the facility for technical and image quality, and accuracy.

Compliance / Safety
- Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations / statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.
- If required for position, ensures all certifications and / or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
- Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.
- Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas / RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs;
performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
Qualifications
Education
Associates of Applied Science or other Related Fields- Required
Certificates and Licensure
MRTBE CT-Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
NAHPG Clinic-Based Staff (Does not apply to Imaging Clinic) :
Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire
Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
Experience
Minimum 1 year experience as imaging technologist - Required (3 years experience - Preferred)
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department.
Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
