Internship Summary :

Reports to : Director of Convention Services

As the Convention Sales and Services intern, you will directly support the Convention Sales and Services department with tools needed to sell and service meetings and conventions hosting their events in Washington, DC.

You will gain dedicated experience in meeting and convention customer relations, project management, hotel and venue knowledge.

This internship provides a unique opportunity to learn about the convention sales & services industry, gain practical experience, and contribute to the success of Destination DC's events.

Your Duties / Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to :

  • Market Research : Updating static information via web research to stay informed about industry trends and competitor activities.
  • Client Communication : Creating correspondence between convention center clients to build and maintain relationships.
  • Strategic Planning : Researching competitors to develop strategic solicitations and differentiate Destination DC's offerings.
  • Data Management : Updating the department's database to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Venue Exploration : Organizing field trips to unique venues to showcase Washington, DC's diverse options for events.
  • Industry Trends : Brainstorming and researching event trends and new ideas to stay ahead of the curve.
  • Project Work : Undertaking various projects related to convention sales and services to develop your skills and knowledge.

What You Bring : Education, Experience & Competencies :

  • Y ou must be c urrently enrolled in college; m ust be junior or senior year college student, in good standing.
  • Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Marketing, and Event Planning majors strongly preferred.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Social media experience a plus.
  • Previous internship experience a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • The position requires interaction with partners, members and clients.
  • Eagerness to learn from a team of dynamic, engaged professionals working to promote Washington, DC and its vital hospitality and travel and tourism economy
  • Demonstrated interest in the travel and tourism economy, enthusiasm for Washington, DC

Internship Specifics :

Duration

  • Spring ( January 13 - May 15 ) .
  • You must be available for in-office work 20-28 hours per week .
  • Hours worked must be within the parameters of Monday-Friday, 8 : 30am-5pm EST to coincide with the operational hours of the office.

Work Environment :

This Intern will follow Destination DC's policies for staff and may work hybrid, coming into the office at a minimum of two days a week and as determined by supervisor.

Intern may work from the office on other days, too. Intern must have reliable internet to work remotely.
