Training : 1–2 weeks (flexibility required on days / hours)

Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week

Contract Length : 26 weeks

Position Overview

The Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) provides direct mental health care and support services to incarcerated individuals in a correctional setting. This role focuses on monitoring, observing, and assisting patients with psychiatric and behavioral health needs while maintaining safety and compliance with correctional facility policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient responses in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols.
  • Conduct mental health assessments, document patient conditions, and report changes to supervising nurses or mental health professionals.
  • Assist in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and suicide prevention within the correctional population.
  • Support therapeutic programs, group activities, and behavioral health treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including progress notes and medication records.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, RNs, psychologists, and correctional officers.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, security regulations, and healthcare standards.
  • Promote a safe and supportive environment for patients and staff.

    • Qualifications

  • Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license in the state of practice.
  • Previous experience in psychiatric, behavioral health, or correctional care preferred.
  • Strong communication, observation, and crisis-management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a secure and structured correctional environment.
