The Opportunity
We are seeking a visionary Manager who will thrive in both autonomous and collaborative settings, working closely with the Director, the R&D Leadership Team, and other innovative minds within the R&D department.
This position is a combination of project leadership and people leadership. A deep understanding and masterful expertise in formulating and developing a range of products including powders and ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages from initial concept to successful execution are fundamental.
This permanent position will report to the Sr. Director Research & Development .
- The ideal candidate will have a significant track record in pioneering new concepts to market launch, demonstrating exceptional knowledge and a rich formulation history in powdered beverages and RTDs under various processing conditions such as retort, hot fill, HTST, and aseptic processes.
- The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, leveraging critical thinking, organizational savvy, superior communication, and analytical skills will be key to success in this role.
- This role involves working in a lab environment with exposure to all food allergens (milk, soy, nuts, peanuts, wheat, egg, etc.
Candidates will participate in tasting various product types.
- Partner with the Director and R&D leadership team to establish achievable goals aligned with company initiatives, fostering a growth mindset and identifying development opportunities for team members.
- Lead the formulation and development of a broad range of products, mastering the art of creating and refining prototypes across different processing conditions.
- Spearhead pilot plant experiments and scale-up processes, maintaining rigorous standards and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of all formulations, product stability, and project outcomes, maintaining a high level of accuracy and accountability.
- Ensures accuracy and timeliness of Sensory Reports, Trial Reports, First Production Reports, Technical Briefs, and other documentation.
The Skills you will bring to the team
- Bachelors of Science degree in Food Science
- Years of experience : Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience working in the food, beverage, or dietary supplement industry;
prior development and knowledge of dietary supplements is an advantage
Expert knowledge and mastery in formulating RTDs across various processing conditions (retort, hot fill, HTST, aseptic, etc.
alongside expertise in powders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead products from concept to market, showcasing a thorough understanding of flavor systems, lab processes, and production dynamics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, nutritional software, and preferably SAP, with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership competencies in developing and motivating teams, managing work effectively, and navigating ambiguity with resilience and perseverance.
- Resilience and adaptability, with a proven ability to navigate ambiguity and lead projects to successful completion in a fast-paced, global environment.
- Developing Direct Reports and Others- Provides challenging and stretching tasks and assignments; holds frequent development discussions;
is aware of each direct report’s career

The opportunity will be based in Downers Grove, IL. This role may require travel up to 10% of the time.
