Position Title : Phlebotomist
Employment Type : Full-time / Part-time
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for drawing blood from patients for various lab tests, transfusions, donations, or research.
The ideal candidate will have excellent patient care skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Blood Collection :
- Perform venepunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks to obtain blood samples.
- Ensure proper identification and labelling of blood samples.
- Prepare and maintain a safe and clean environment for blood collection.
- Patient Interaction :
- Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation.
- Provide excellent patient care and comfort during the blood collection process.
- Address patient concerns and answer questions related to the blood draw process.
- Sample Handling :
- Ensure proper storage and transportation of collected specimens.
- Follow protocols for specimen handling, including the use of anticoagulants and preservatives.
- Maintain accurate records of all blood samples collected.
- Quality Control and Safety :
- Adhere to all safety and infection control procedures.
- Dispose of biohazard materials according to established guidelines.
- Perform routine maintenance and quality control checks on equipment.
- Administrative Duties :
- Enter patient information into electronic medical records (EMR) or laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies and order as needed.
- Assist with clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and answering phones when necessary.
Qualifications
- Education :
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program or equivalent certification.
- Certification :
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from a recognized certifying body (e.g., ASCP, NHA) preferred.
- Experience :
- 1 years of experience in phlebotomy (preferred).
- Experience in a clinical or hospital setting (preferred).
- Skills :
- Proficiency in venepuncture and other blood collection techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with EMR and LIS systems.
