Job Summary
Aptive Resources is seeking a skilled Post Anesthesia Care Registered Nurse. As a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN), you will play a critical role in the recovery of patients following surgical procedures.
Working in a fast-paced environment, you will provide specialized nursing care to patients emerging from anesthesia, ensuring their safety, comfort, and stability.
Your expertise in critical care, assessment, and monitoring will be essential in managing post-operative complications and facilitating patients' transition from anesthesia to recovery.
Primary Responsibilities
Patient Assessment and Monitoring : Conduct thorough assessments of patients recovering from anesthesia, monitoring vital signs, pain levels, and overall condition.
Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient status, including respiratory distress, cardiac irregularities, and neurological deficits.
Post-Operative Care : Provide specialized nursing interventions to promote optimal recovery, including pain management, wound care, and fluid management.
Assess and address post-operative complications such as nausea, vomiting, and hypotension.
Patient Education and Support : Educate patients and families about post-operative care instructions, medication management, and potential side effects.
Offer emotional support and reassurance during the recovery process, addressing concerns and promoting patient comfort.
Collaborative Care : Coordinate care with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Communicate patient progress, concerns, and discharge readiness effectively to facilitate smooth transitions.
Documentation and Record Keeping : Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
Ensure timely and thorough completion of post-anesthesia recovery documentation.
Emergency Response : Assess and manage emergent situations within the PACU, initiating appropriate interventions and following established protocols for emergency care.
Maintain readiness to respond to cardiac arrests, respiratory failures, and other critical incidents.
Quality Improvement : Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency within the PACU.
Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based practices and protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
- Licensure : Current, unrestricted RN license from any state in the United States.
- Certification : Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
Current Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
- Experience : Minimum of three (3) years prior experience in a post anesthesia care setting
- Education : Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
- Ability to perform under pressure in emergency situations.
- Excellent documentation and communication abilities.
- Team-oriented with a focus on collaborative patient care.
