The Development Associate (DA) will play a key role within the Office of Advancement as a member of the unit development team for the .

The incumbent provides high level administrative and strategic support to advance the University’s campaign and major gift enterprises on behalf of the school.

The DA is responsible for providing day-to-day strategic support to development officers and unit leadership, liaising through an established structure across the school’s centers and programs in support of their respective volunteer boards.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development and working closely with front-line development officers as well as divisional and school leadership, additional duties include, but are not limited to :

Strategic Portfolio Management

Work collaboratively with development office to assess individual prospect portfolio(s), managing comprehensive reviews of portfolios to determine which of the many prospects within these portfolios should be retained, reassigned, or dropped.

Assist development officer to tier or segment the prospects in order of priority for his / her attention, confirming capacity and inclination of current prospects.

Develop a thorough understanding of the development officer’s area / s of fundraising responsibility to participate meaningfully in the strategic identification of prospects.

Coordinate the entry of contact reports, prospect strategies, other substantive actions, and contact information updates on GU 360.

Develop and maintain systems in support of the SDOD’s management responsibilities including budget and expense control, human resources utilization, correspondence, communication, and coordination with all areas of the Office of Advancement and the University.

Provide Donor stewardship by fielding inquiries from donors and managing sensitive and confidential donor information for the DO’s, preparing specialized acknowledgements when appropriate.

Support the DO’s and other staff members with various stewardship activities such as Gift Club receptions, dinners and other events including the ordering of downloads, assisting in developing invitation lists, production and mailing of invitations as needed.

Prospect Research and Analysis

Apply prospect identification, research, and relationship management methodologies to support Advancement goals, utilizing research resources including libraries, electronic databases, propriety information resources, and data available on the Web.

Evaluate financial assets and known liabilities to estimate prospect giving potential and apply appropriate capacity ratings, as well as gift capacity through standard wealth-assessment formulas.

Adhere to all aspects of record-keeping systems and information retrieval capabilities and protocols, understanding information management and database structures, and updating / inputting information in such systems routinely.

Run Georgetown 360 (GU 360) reports with the goal of building a larger pipeline of prospects, generating strategic prospect lists as requested for specific fundraising initiatives or projects.

Engage in proactive prospecting, including data mining, to provide new prospects for the portfolios of development officers.

Engage in constituent list segmentation based on limited, specific variables such as zip code, giving history, age, sex, or other demographic data.

Research newspapers and periodicals, as well as online alert services for information on Georgetown alumni, parents, and friends;

Disseminate all found information to files, database, prospect managers, and other interested parties.

Relationship Management and Communication

Communicate effectively with development clients and relay information requests in a timely manner, exercising clear communication (written and verbal) in representing body of work.

Provide full-spectrum support to MSB colleagues with philanthropic related queries, ensuring that work completed has the highest levels of completeness, accuracy of information, and relevance of information to the fundraising process.

Interact with colleagues in Advancement and the MSB with tact, professionalism and respect, working jointly with colleagues in a team effort to reach Advancement goals.

Travel Related / Organizational

Make travel arrangements as necessary

Process travel and other reimbursement forms for DO’s

Perform additional duties as assigned by the SDOD

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Ideally 1-3 years of work experience, preferably in a development / fundraising environment

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel; Broad knowledge of and experience in the use of research materials, including the internet and online informational databases

Must be able to work efficiently and effectively at times under tight deadlines

Strong problem-solving abilities with the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative as appropriate

Must understand and practice a high standard of confidentiality and ethical information collection

Strong collaborative and project management skills; ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects

Attention to detail is critical along with highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills

Work Mode Designation

Pay Range :

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is :

$41,926.00 - $65,090.00

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
