The Queens County District Attorney’s Office (QDA) is seeking a Supervising Intelligence Analyst for its Crime Strategies & Intelligence Bureau.

The Crime Strategies & Intelligence Bureau (CSIB) proactively gathers and analyzes crime data and intelligence to drive the Office’s strategies on crime reduction and public safety.

Members of CSIB work closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies (primarily the New York City Police Department), bureaus within QDA, and other stakeholders within the community, to identify and study crime trends, groups, and individuals most responsible for driving crimes that impact our communities including violent crime, theft, fraud, and quality of life offenses.

The Supervising Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the bureau in collaboration with the Bureau Chief and Office Executives and will assist the Investigations Division and other personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of criminal activities.

The Supervising Intelligence Analyst will also supervise and assist junior analysts in providing CSIB with investigative, analytical, and data manipulation support.

The Supervising Intelligence Analyst’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Assist in developing, motivating, and leading the intelligence analysis team including daily supervision of crime / intelligence analysts, focusing of resources, and evaluation of team members.
  • Perform research, compile and analyze complex information / data regarding geographical information system (GIS) management;

gather relevant data, information and / or documentation from a variety of sources; perform high level and highly complex intelligence analysis program development and design.

Perform and supervise difficult, complex, and sensitive projects and negotiations; make recommendations for the use of best practices and innovation in prosecutorial analytical techniques;

exercise independence of action and consequence of error in formulating recommendations for management.

  • Coordinate, analyze, evaluate, and interpret intelligence and crime data in preparing routine and special reports for the benefit of legal, investigative, and support personnel.
  • Prepare difficult, complex ad hoc reports produced on a daily, monthly and annual basis; compile crime analysis and intelligence data;
  • present background information and description of analytical standards; outline findings indicating crime patterns / trends;

write final reports and documentation; present reports which may include formal presentations; perform statistical and spatial analysis.

  • Interpret the results of intelligence and statistical analysis through presentations of data at meetings or through consultation with legal, investigative and support personnel.
  • Coordinate with QDA bureaus in offering litigation support services including evaluation for alternatives to incarceration, witness background and social media analysis, and acting as a liaison to NYPD Precinct Field Intelligence Officers for assistance on active prosecutions and investigations.
  • Assist in the acquisition, development, and use of industry-current and in-house proprietary applications to gather, analyze, and process data to produce a complete model of crime trends in Queens neighborhoods.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements :

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two years of experience is required. All candidates must have at least a high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • Candidates must be highly skilled in standard operating systems and software including Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables; charts; functions; etc.) is required.

  • Candidates must have the ability to handle multiple challenging assignments, be detailed oriented with superior organizational, critical thinking, analytical, writing and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate investigative results to other team members, and to testify in court if necessary.
  • Candidates must be capable of building institutional relationships with community residents and organizations, police, and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Candidates must have an understanding of general practices related to legal records management, data protection, and privacy / confidentiality.

Strong preference will be given to candidates who possess the following :

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college (preferably in data science, management, or criminal justice), as well as five years of related experience in the Criminal Justice System.
  • Formal intelligence analysis training and / or certifications.
  • Strong skills in the analysis of forensic extractions, phone records and open-source intelligence.
  • Experience using Cellebrite; Penlink; social media tools; etc.
