GENERAL SUMMARY
As a member of the Academic Affairs team, the Director of Student Disability and Accessibility Services provides leadership for the design, development, and implementation of accessibility and disability services and programs for Regis College students.
The Director ensures that all Regis students with disabilities have equal access to college programs in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and ADA Amendments Acts of 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
The Director of Student Disability and Accessibility Services will review, interpret, and evaluate documentation and diagnostic information to determine reasonable accommodations for students, and collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to provide those accommodations.
As an advocate for, and support to, persons with disabilities, the Director will work collaboratively with other campus constituencies to ensure that the Regis community is committed to accessibility and knowledgeable about the experiences of persons with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Develop policies and procedures that, consistent with the Regis College mission, increase access to higher education for students with disabilities.
- Manage and maintain an online database of student disability records in accordance with FERPA regulations.
- Conduct intake interviews with students requesting accommodations to evaluate and interpret diagnostic documentation to determine eligibility for disability related accommodations.
- Review the records of students with documented disabilities, chronic medical conditions and temporary disabling injuries to develop accommodation plans designed to support students’ needs.
- Produce and distribute accommodation letters for all registered students to necessary faculty members at the beginning of each semester or term.
- Supervise the management of the Accommodated Testing Center; including supervision of multiple graduate intern staff to ensure all accommodated tests are managed and proctored appropriately.
- Provide leadership for the campus community regarding design and implementation of accessibility and disability services through programming, trainings, and service learning opportunities.
- Consult and serve as a resource to faculty and staff regarding the needs of students with disabilities.
- Collect data and generate reports assessing the outcome of services provided.
- Provide ongoing training and workshop opportunities to faculty and staff in the area of disability and accessibility on campus.
- Consult as needed with the Department of Human Resources regarding accommodation requests.
OTHER DUTIES :
- Work closely with the offices of Student Affairs to provide the full range of accommodations for students in all areas of college life.
- Attend weekly Student Affairs Directors Meetings to stay informed about the larger campus community.
- Work collaboratively with Learning Commons advisors and coaches to provide comprehensive support services for students with disabilities.
- Maintain knowledge of current disability laws to ensure compliance, make ADA recommendations to the College, serve on college committees and task forces related to accessibility, accommodation, and advocacy for students with disabilities.
- Participate in relevant professional development opportunities to keep abreast of practice and developments in the field.
- Serve as a member of the Case Management Team.
- Assume other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Supervisor of Assistant Director and other relevant staff.
- Ongoing collaboration with multiple campus stakeholders
Qualifications
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE / TRAINING REQUIRED :
- Minimum of Master's degree in special education, rehabilitation counseling, or a closely related field.
- At least four years of progressively responsible experience working in a higher education setting with students with disabilities.
- A record of responsiveness to and advocacy for the diverse and evolving needs of people with disabilities.
- Working knowledge of state and federal laws related to disability services at the post-secondary level.
- Continuing education and / or graduate course work in cognitive and educational science, psycho-educational testing, coaching, and teaching.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and respectfully in a complex and diverse academic environment.
- Ability to interact effectively and communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with students, faculty, staff, and external service providers.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Ability and openness to use Apple iPad, Starfish, Datatel, Moodle, Symplicity's Accommodate and other technological tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
- This position is scheduled for campus-based work with limited remote flexibility on a weekly basis.
- Daily use of phone and computer.
- Occasional night / weekend work as required.
