Job Summary

The Physical Therapist ("Therapist") under minimal supervision, assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative treatments that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and improve or correct disabling conditions resulting from disease or injury.

The Therapist coordinates care of patients in collaboration with healthcare professionals, family and caregiver. Utilizes experience and education to assist with developing programs, improving performance, and studentand workforce education.

The Therapist is a subject matter expert that relies on clinical reasoning in synthesizing complex evaluations and routinely collaborates with colleagues and key stakeholders to coordinate patient treatment that is

safe, efficient and high-quality.

  • Patient care visits are 1 : 1 in private rooms.
  • Visits are 45 minutes in length to give the therapist focused time to their patients.
  • Mentorship program is provided to all new employees.

Essential Functions :

Patient Care

Deliver, assess, plan, organize, and participate in rehabilitative treatments that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and improve or correct disabling conditions resulting from disease or injury utilizing evidence-based occupational therapy treatment interventions.

Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention. (30%)

Treatment Plan (Plan of Care)

Develop and maintain the patient's plan of care in collaboration with Physician's, the patient and family. Focus the plan of care on the patient's age and lifestyle to determine measurable long- and short-term goals and a defined D / C plan.

Discuss the proposed intervention, its material risks and expected benefits, and any reasonable alternatives with patient and family members.

Modifies treatment plan to coincide with patient's goals and the overall plan. Confer with the patient, medical practitioners, or appropriate others to plan, implement, or assess the intervention program. (30%)

Evaluation

Evaluate the effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit. Evaluates patient outcomes based on presenting diagnosis and pertinent information regarding the patient. (15%)

Documentation

Complete patient care documentation recording the prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart. Update medical records according to prescribed departmental standards.

Complete appropriate data bases, problem lists, treatment goals and individualized plan of care. Completes patient charges per department guidelines. (10%)

Education (Patient and Employees)

Assists in precepting, orienting and teaching students (OT students, hospital staff), precepts new employees during orientation.

Trains and educates patients, family members and care-givers in therapy principles, methods and techniques in order to achieve intended outcomes. (5%)

Discharge

Discharge patient from physical therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow-up care or referrals. (5%)

Staff Supervision

Direct, supervise, assess, and communicate with supportive personnel. Assist in overseeing the activities of the staff which includes but is not limited to sourcing, hiring, and training new team members, creating and managing schedules, evaluating performance, and providing coaching to engage and motivate team members, identifying and applying career advancement opportunities for team members, and helping to resolve employee issues and disputes. (5%)

Education :

Master's Degree Required

Work Experience :

1-3 years Previous experience in acute care environment Required

Licenses :

BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Problem solving - the ability to systematically analyze problems, draw relevant conclusions and devise appropriate courses of action.
  • Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Knowledge of theory, principles and practice of physical therapy.
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Concern for Others - Job requires being sensitive to others' needs and feelings and being understanding and helpful on the job.
  • Knowledge of safety principles in patient care environment.
  • Knowledge of standards, polices and procedures of Denver Health as they pertain to physical therapy.
  • Ability to integrate requirements of the facility and / or regulatory agencies into clinical decisions and documentation.
